Monster Quest by FiveIronFanatic

[raw]
made by FiveIronFanatic for LD33 (COMPO)
Deep within the final dungeon, a pair of monsters wait for the heroes to arrive...

But. Um.

They never do.

It's up to them to finish the job for the fallen heroes! Are you monster enough to do it!?

Thrown together in RPG Maker VX Ace. (Sorry for the huge download size! I'm trying to figure out if I can remove the default assets to lighten it up.) I made the art in Manga Studio 5.0 with a Wacom tablet (can't you tell based on that picture!?), SFX with sfxr, and music in Audacity with a Flea ukulele.

I somehow survived my first Ludum Dare! w00t!!

Wow, 190 mb download is quite extraordinary, I was expectant of something really asset heavy. So maybe don't include all the standard assets from RPG Maker when you don't need them. Apart from that: Funny take on the stereotypical way games present monsters from the POV of the hero. The Stone's were really hard to read, maybe cahnge the font color or the tiles of that floor :) Really cute ukulele soundtrack and very nice writing! :)

I played up to Vlad and died, but man I sure enjoyed it! Hillarious. Also very impressive. The combat system was well done and looks like it was a lot of work. Great concept too.

It's a big download, but well worth it. I recommend anyone play this. It's nostalgic and quite funny. Well Done!!!

Things I learned today:
1. What the "corpse fruit" my co-workers from the Philippines had talked about,
2. Circle division by chords,
3. The 100 green-eyed dragon puzzle,
4. That my knowledge of Dental Puns from working the dental industry actually has a use,
5. That infantile tactics used in the movie "Monster Squad" can also be used in a video game.

In all seriously, this was a fantastic play, and really funny. Great job on your first Ludum Dare entry and hope to see more like this in the future.

Nice work - I enjoyed the writing :) The combat seemed like it could use some balancing, but then I guess it wasn't the point of the game! Also personally I would've picked some different ground tiles - they were very similar to the walls, and it was hard to see the text on top of it. Good work though, and nice audio too!
