Anteater 2 by Fernando Tonon de Rossi

This is a remake of a game I made for LD 48, the anteater

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/anteater

You control the anteater tong, click to the target and it will eat the ants in between.

The ants prefer paths with more pheromone;

In this version I remade all the code in JS, before it was QML, I also made it end when the ants get to a certain depth.

So the objective is to eat the most ants you can and avoid letting them get too deep.

I opted out the graphics, because I used the same hand made sprites from the last time, and the sfx were AI generated, so I also opted out the audio.

I'm assuming you're using A-Star pathfinding? I managed to get the ants stuck at the top, but the whole tongue thing is a really cool concept!

The mix of the sound and the anteater graphic got me chuckling, interesting idea, because I could see a longer project of managing ant colonies so they grow to produce more ants but dont grow enough to escape the anteater :thinking:

I love the anteater idea! I agree with the previous comments too, this would make a super interesting larger-scale management kinda game. Just a note, I ran into a soft lock where the ants all only wanted to go down 1 horizontal line at the top of the colony, and they would just continuously go down only that line infinitely, no matter how much I ate them. I think it would be cool to add some sort of specific resources the ants are digging/bringing back and then something you can do with that resource (maybe buy more ants?).

I liked the idea and enjoyed the gameplay although at some point all the ants started to go to the same place so I could just keep eating them without any worries. Fun little game though

Super cute idea! After a while the ants only seemed to go up in a repeating pattern. Nonetheless i enjoyed my time with it :)

Definitely a very unique idea! The ants seem to always follow the same path though, the same that tongue takes too. So they basically got locked trying to run to specific tile that I just kept getting.

Fun, simple, and rewarding. Just what I want out of a jam game! Well done!

I don't know if I should focus on the titular anteater or the ants. I mean the anteater is capable of eating many ants at once in single strike which is great however watching the ants digging the ground to open more paths is good too.
Anyways, off topic aside, it is simple and fun game. It's not hard to eat many ants with single strike.

Nice simple game. Just watching the ants dig is quite satisfying. The ants had a tendency to get stuck in a pattern at near the top when being eaten a lot.
