Monstrocity by JaviCepa

[raw]
made by JaviCepa for LD33 (COMPO)
In the year 20XX, humanity has just recovered from a nuclear apocalypse. Everryone lives under a new sustainable economy model, with 100% clean renewable energy, no poverty or crime, and no corruption.

This is unnaceptable for the underground monster society, who feeds on chaos and human fear, so they have inbreed during a hundred generations to give birth to YOU, the ultimate-teenage-mutant-monster. It is your duty to destroy civilization for once and return mankind to the good old apocalypse age.

Bring the caos to Monstrocity!

Controls: arrow keys + space

Goal: crush humans to level up, reach level 10 to see the ending.

NOTE: This game features online multiplayer if you want to play with a friend. Sorry for the issues, it's hard to do online coding in 48h... :_D
You can also enjoy it single-player offline.

Haha love the cheerful music to go along with the destruction. Not entirely clear on what's causing me to level up/level back down though.

I didn't manage to get past level 7, but fun overall! I love the art style and the music

Haha, I love the style! Simple but amazingly effective graphics! Also, the resolution gave it a very original aspect.

I didn't really know how to level up, but I got to level 8.

Amazing game, thanks!

For those having problems leveling up: crush walking humans to gain XP.

I love destroying buildings (when playing video games, of course). That one cheered me up ! :D

I loved the fluidity of the controls at lower levels -- it seems like there isn't enough space to operate at higher levels (or maybe I'm just not very good) so I took a lot of what seemed like unavoidable damage.

Well it crashed at Behemoth haha.
I didn't get a multiplayer opponent but it was great!
The buildings in the background getting quaked is an awesome touch!

It took me 981 kills to doom mankind. I found leveling up from 5-10 was less interesting than 1-5. At that point you're so large, jumping didn't seem make much of a difference but I did it anyway because a jumping monster is cooling than a non-jumping one. Nice art and audio.

Really great fire and explosion graphics! I couldn't get past level 7 : ( not enough humans for me to stomp. Maybe its because i destroyed all buildings?

It feels like a mayhem playground, there's not much of a game to it but i kinda got hypnotized by it for 20 minutes while jumping around and crushing stuff.

Quite fun!

I love the grapic effects! Very simple, but nice to the eye.
Only downside is, when I reached level 7, the monster started floating instead of walking (it didn't look like it should have happended, but I can't be shure, of coure) and it started going much slower. Plus, once I was going to reach lv10, the levels just startingscrolling automatically up to lv34! Thus, I didn't make it to see the ending :-(
Liked the game. Good job! :-)

Simple idea! Kill to grow. But I like it simple.
Vector art and music are nice, too!

Really gargantuan LD entry! ;) Thanks!
Graphic is great in its minimalism but the game shines in audio category - really cool idea with monster's voice depending on its size. Also love that music is such a contrast...

happy destroying (mankind) everyone! :)

Really super awesome audio and fx design! I think the gameplay needs something more than just walking left and right and jumping as much as possible. All the particle effects made it hard to see when you got hit by bullets (?) and it was hard to strategize/dodge/escape so you just had to take the hits and power down.

I liked the fact that the monster grows... nice idea.
