Doomed Settlers by Jimbly

[raw]
made by Jimbly for LD33 (COMPO)
Grow a settlement to be strong as quickly as possible in this side-scrolling town simulation. This is my first ever time doing a Ludum Dare, I hope you enjoy it! I've been wanting to try experimenting with a mix between Towns + Terraria, and though this is far from the breadth or depth of either of those, it has convinced me that a side-scrolling town simulation could be a lot of fun!

The game should be playable through to the end (3 waves of attackers) in about 15 minutes (my two play testers took 8 and 16 minutes though one didn't win and the other was obsessive...). The theme of this Ludum Dare is applied fairly subtly and some things will only make sense after completing the game.

It was a little confusing to understand how building stuff worked, but once I got it, I got hooked on that "build everything" attitude. The final battle was wonderful and tragic.

Yeah! Mountain Dew!

I think you definitely succeeded in making it a lot like Towns and Terraria. I love your tree trunk and sky textures!

Nice work, make more games!

Very cool and funny with the jumping characters. Which have also names which gives them some sort of character. I had fun to play through and was defeated.
I am not so sure about the theme... But somehow it makes sense.
The second time I did succeed.

Actually plays pretty smoothly compared to other ludum dare RTS games I've played. The combat scenes were pretty neat also.

A very promising start to a game. I have never played towns, but I could see the Terraria inspiration for sure.

Fun game! I couldn't really tell what the workshop sounds meant at first, I thought maybe my lumberjacks had encountered something interesting and was panning to look. :)
The battles seemed too easy at first, but that was quickly solved. It would have been nice to have a hard fight before the final one though, for more of a feeling of accomplishment! :)

the control freak in me loved it, although it crashed my AMD 'gaming evolved' crap for some reason.
The ending, though...

Good foundation for a potentially addictive game. I am a sucker for seeing numbers grow and getting the best equips.

I totally forgot about the theme until the little twist at the end. Ohhhhhh snap! Nice job, especially in so little time!
