D.M.C : Dwarves Mine Caves by lepol

[raw]
made by lepol for Ludum Dare 57 (JAM)

Welcome to the caves, miner ! :pick:

Description :notepad_spiral:

Descend into the depths as a brave dwarf working for the mysterious DMC Corporation. In this fast-paced mining adventure, you’ll explore dangerous caverns and extract tons of gold.

The more gold you extract, the better gear you can afford to venture further down underground to meet the ever-increasing quotas of the company.

But be careful - the deeper you go, the more perilous the mine becomes. Will you return rich, or be lost to the depths forever?

Gameplay :game_die:

You have 2 minutes after landing to go down in the mines, gather as much gold as you can, and return to the ship before it leaves without you.

You can then buy upgrades in the shop to reach deeper biomes with better resources.

Each day, the gold objective gets higher, meaning you'll need to take more and more risks to avoid getting terminated by The Company !

Controls :keyboard: :mousethreebutton:

  • Movement : WASD

  • Jump : Spacebar/W

  • Mine : Mouse left

  • Shotgun : Mouse right (but be wary of the recoil, it packs a punch !)

  • Interact : E/Mouse Left

  • Zoom in/out : Mouse wheel

Now get down there and bring the riches back to the surface !

I liked the concept, it just works. The style and the terraria like digging is good. The only concern I faced it is lack of mobility, IMHO jumping should be more agile.

This game is soo muchh funn!! The countdown creates an incredible sense of urgency and there's a great rush when you make it just last second! The upgrade system is awesome as well! Great job!

The timer makes this game really tense, good submission!

Nice game loop. However, the audio loop doesn't seem to be working, but that should be an easy fix. At first, I didn't understand what resource I needed to find, but after that, it's a funny game! :)

Really nice game, really like the idea, the graphics are good, sound design is nice. Concept works well and you have enough material to play for some time. Really nice job. One of my favorites so far. GG

I was a little confused at first when I lost my first play through and only after realized the timer on the ship is what I needed to return within that limit. I know there is an upgrade to show the timer when you are at depth, but I think that should have been enabled from the start as it is a pretty critical element for the game.

The digging and gold collection felt pretty good. Especially once you got better pickaxe upgrades. The running on wall upgrade was a little awkward for me to use, but I think it could be very powerful if you dig straight down shafts. I ultimately ended up losing because I thought the wall run was going to be able to get me back to the surface a lot more quickly than it actually did :(

I would've liked to see more combat. I only ran into the bats at the surface and didn't see anything further down, but maybe I wasn't able to get far enough.

Nice work!

The overall mechanism reminds me of the old classic Gold Miner game. Feels satisfying to dig gold and love how the gold meter just straight up go beyond the limit.
Although it is a bit strange that in a game about mining, the only enemies are bats which are spawned above the ground?

i've played on the web version and the movement felt a little restricted, i couldn't move as fast and as precisely as i wanted. but overall i've loved it.

I played the web version and it is a bit zoomed out, fullscreen would help a lot I think, but it is a fun game, with a nice loop in.

I really liked the sounds and how satisfying the mining feels because of them! Upgrades are neat too and they feel great!

As already mentioned, the sound design is great—mining is surprisingly pleasant thanks to those audio choices. I do wish there were more opportunities to use the shotgun.

Really nice game! The art is great, the gameplay is fun (the clock augment is a nice addition for ditzes like me, thanks) and i like the shop music too :)

I just had a little lag at the beginning of each round, like 3 seconds in and it lasts 3-5 seconds, but might just be a web build thing

Good work!

Love mining games! Is there a link to Blumgi ? Love to see this in full game with more minerals. And secrets to discover . The soundtrack is good and the pixel art is actually art! Nice auto tiling, good amount of items in the shop and fun fired card so overall Good game -> Super Great jam-game. Potential for full release with some love.

Really amazing and ambitious. Lots to praise, can I cut to the suggestions? I think the game looks awesome, especially shiny borders of the ground tiles, but I feel that there's Too much detail for such a small scale.
Regarding the main progression - it is weird, challenge rumps up and your success depends on how much you get above the requirement, but you don't know how difficult later days would be and it is possible to lose first few days, and go on, not knowing that you effectively couldn't complete some later level.

Really fun game! Had a bit of a freeze when the the first earth block was broken, but besides that the game was flawless

I really like this! The game controls a little funky and I think the jump could use a little TLC to make it feel more managable. I bought the wall run almost immediately, but never felt like I had a good opportunity to make use of it.

This game has a relaxing and stressful feeling at the same time that's very hard to describe, love it. Also, why did you opted out of the Music category? The sfx for the stone and mining is super good

@airgameboys thanks for the feedback !
We opted out of the Graphics and Audio categories because the majority of our art and audio assets have been (legitimately) acquired from artists and open asset packs.

What a fun game loop! I love how satisfying the mining sounds are, and it's so good to have upgrades really make a difference like this :D
My first run had me reaching day 6 (and failing), and since I tried going to lower depths to beat that - but I keep dying or missing the clock, haha! It's tough!
At any rate, this is a complete package, very well done!

Very satisfying tilemap, game and sound design. One thing I didn't appreciate is the difficulty curve as I'd find myself too often fighting with the character's movement and that got in a way of climbing out. And damn even in this game one can't escape taxes

Well done!
