You play as an old man who is drawn away from his home every night. He leaves not of his own will—an unseen force pulls him. He doesn't know why. He just goes.

Will you be able to make it through the night... and return? Good luck.

You are bound to your heart by a delicate thread that keeps you from forgetting. But the deeper you descend, the weaker this connection becomes.

Avoid sad thoughts—they pull you down.

The graphics really come through as really artistic-modern-abstract(?) probably not the right words but they look really nice while being really simple, congratulations! The combination of 2d and 3d looks really good!. On the other hand i had a couple of bugs i think? the heart with the thread seems to stop going down.

Anyways nice job! extra point for the cat 😺

I love the idea that there are basically two games operating at the same time with the same controls here - the "walking simulator" on the left, and the "diving game" on the right. However, it looks like the "heart dive" breaks a little easily - stopping in place for a bit seems to cause it to stop descending at all. I also think it takes too long for the fish to move out of the way once they turn around; I know the idea is "move only when it's safe," but I'd prefer a test of reflexes to one of patience. There's also no warning when (or where) the fish come back, so avoiding damage feels annoyingly luck-based as well.

@danyclockworker I actually talked about it just before and while playing your game, yours is EASILY the closest game I've seen to the one we made so I feel like there's a good chance we're in similar states of mind

Great job with the story and art! The game is very enjoyable but there are a few bugs: the heart stops moving down sometimes, probably it's tied to moving backwards. And also, after interacting with the cat, the camera is not centered on the playable character...

Simple short 2.5D adventure that makes you reflect on life and things to come.

Awesome work!

Good use of the theme. Seems clear what it's about without saying so outright. I like it. The mood is on point, and the music does a lot of work, but the gentle whirring of the elevator and the cat purring are really nice touches.

Like other commenters I unfortunately had some issues that seem like bugs. The heart thread stopping if I stopped too long, for instance. I only managed to complete (I think; I reached the same point as in the picture above, which does seem like the ending) the game once. Every other attempt both before and after the game reset at various points I couldn't really make sense of. The heart did go red when it hit stuff, but the game didn't reset until way later when the heart wasn't colliding with anything, so I'm a bit confused as to how that worked. The only time I managed to finish the game I didn't pick up the hat, don't know if that matters. I may have got hit by the car the first time it reset?

The graphics are charming in their own way. I imagine a solo dev wouldn't've been able to get all that stuff in there if it'd've been more detailed. I think a different font and some shader on the 3D could've made the direction more cohesive to fit the 2D graphics. The colours are nice and I like the little touches like the zoomout.

Overall I liked it. The premise had me interested just from reading it, so I had to play it. Just needs those bugs or unclear parts sorted out.

@ava-skoog Thank you for your review! Actually, there are two endings: one where you take the kitten home, which is the happy ending.
