Froggy Towers by LordSheo
Justification
The only real justification I have is that since all the sprites are 2D they lack depth... Yeah I know it's a pretty big stretch and I don't utilise that aspect in the gameplay at all but it's a game I've wanted to make for a long time so I'm super happy I've finally done it.
Changelog
- Fixed towers not shooting oop
Post-Jam
I continued to work on the game after the end of the jam to bring it closer to what I had imagined so if you'd like to play that version you can find it here: https://lordsheo.itch.io/froggy-towers-post-jam

Ping me when that's sorted please
Here's the game all, terribly balanced but functional :raised_hands:
I like the idea, but it still requires some tweaking around, the powerups are just some towers that spawn randomly on the map, i'd have rather had some power ups that affect the character's shot.
Love the froggis tho!
I barely heard the music in the background but once I did it was a pleasant tune.
I found that your score and health (at least in UI) do not reset after starting a new game.
Good work.
I wish you did have time to tune the game properly. Arrows are slow as snails. Towers appear at random and seem like they don't work as planned.
My score was 86400. I've spent quite some time playing the game.
The concept is interesting, but unfortunately it lacks balance or perhaps explanation. The projectiles are very slow, which makes it hard to clear waves of enemies. I also didn’t really understand the differences between the various towers.
Played and voted ♥
Cheers :v:
I really like the art style and music. It's a bit Paper Mario maybe, but to me the vibes are a lot more like Bug Fables if you've played that. I like the combo of genres here - taking the towers/turrets from tower defence games and using them in a more open setting where you get to join the action yourself is pretty cool.
I felt that the execution lacked some clarity and depth, though. You don't get to place the towers yourself - they just appear randomly on the far edges of the map. At first I thought the upgrade system wasn't working at all, so that could be better communicated to the player. Even so, spawning the towers like this removes any strategy element from the game.
The combat was also a little tedious. There's only one type of enemy and they take forever to kill, even when under attack by you and surrounded by several towers. I would probably make you - and especially the towers - deal more damage. I would also suggest adding more variety in enemy types/attacks, and also varying the way your own towers attack. It would be more exciting for the player if there are a wider variety of interesting things to do that are always changing up.
Overall, good work! I haven't played your post-jam version yet, so it's possible you've addressed some/all of my suggestions in that already. I'm looking forward to giving it a try.
I had quite some fun with it, but I wish there was something to do later on, or some goal to work towards - I've had a score of about 540k, at which point new towers were offered once every blue moon (I think my last two were around 300k and then 500k), and it didn't make sense to keep going. I wish there was some strategic depth to selecting updates, currently the most you can do is hope for a lucky spawn and herd the enemies to tower-dense areas, and just keep kiting / running in circles forever. With some more things to do, and an increasing difficulty level, this could become a very nice tower defense / zombie survivor hybrid.
Really enjoyed this, super peaceful lil Brotato-like. Vibe is spot on, love the lil twirl they do when they jump.
Map could be smaller IMO as there's a lot of empty space that doesn't really get filled till the endgame.
Bogart my beloved
Brotato was actually one of my inspirations for the game! Also the jump twirl was supposed to be temporary because I couldn't figure out what to make the jump animation but then forgot to change it
The game is really nicely done. The graphics, the animations make a fantastic vibe, and, of course, the frogs <3 Love that! The jam version unfrotunately didn't work properly - the towers didn't shoot at all, which was a bit puzzling as to why I have to choose anything :D However, you've made it shine really nicely! Great job!
