Disturbed Mind by guldlock

[raw]
made by guldlock for LD33 (JAM)
Your job is to follow a recipe, talk to prisoners and find the creature that you need to sacrifice to complete the recipe. You don't like your job, but you do it anyway. Be aware of your state of mind when you work so you don't break down, because you don't know what'll happen if you do...

Created by Kevin Andersson - @anderssonkev

CONTROLS: Use your mouse to interact with the different things in the lab. Things that get a green outline can be interacted with.

*Note: I didn't have time to add audio.

I really like this. I am always trying to think of interesting ways to tell little stories in games and this is really effective. I hope you continue to work on this. I imagine it would make a great tablet game :)

I started up the game and had no idea what I was supposed to do. I tried keyboard and mouse controls. Clicking things got a response, but all I could do was walk back and forth between one of the subjects and some desk looking thing. I could not click the "New Creatures", "Talk", or "Execute" buttons. Looks like it could be a really cool game. Hope you keep working on it after the competition.

Am I the only one here who can't seem to get the hang on the controls? I can't click on the commands. That aside, the artworks' awesome!

Thank you for your comments! I can't seem to be able to reproduce the bug. I can only test on Windows so if you're plying on another OS then it could be the reason (Don't think that it should affect anything)

When you couldn't click on the different buttons, are you sure that you were close enough? You can see in the dialog box at the top what it says there (Should let you know if you're too far away). @Hegback & @xevofighter

I was horrible at being a dictator... So now you know absolute power wouldn't corrupt me! Gimme, gimme!

Found a little bug. Spamming a speech button gives and error of sorts and ends the game abruptly.

Otherwise a solid effort, leans on trial and error too much though. Big points on presentation.

Whoops! Disregard my earlier comment, that was meant for another game. Here's what I'll have to say on topic:

The premise is interesting, the execution a bit lacking.

The GUI would need some work.
- Clicking on an empty tank still brings up the "Talk" and "Execute" buttons.
- Clicking "Execute" kills all of the creatures. Not quite what I expected taken that it is an action directed towards a single subject. Maybe change it to "Approve" instead.
- Clicking a button that is over a tank selects the tank rather than uses the action.

Gameplaywize the "choose a subject based on description" mechanic works, but isn't terribly exciting after you've read the same descriptions a few times. It is also possible that two of them call me a monster, meaning I have no way of knowing which one of them is the target (if the third one isn't the target, that is)

Like I said, the premise is very interesting and the graphics support that. You'll just need to work on the interaction mechanics and GUI quite a bit.

There's now an update if you download the latest one where a bug was fixed that prevented buttons to appear. I believe that's all I'm allowed to fix. There's also a web version as well.

Well that was a genuinely weird experience. Not sure if I was even playing it correctly, but I still felt compelled to keep playing. Just for that, I'd consider this a success.

Not sure what I was doing... I had some sad music playing in the background that seemed to compliment what was going on rather nicely. Would be curious to see this developed a bit further.

Even without audio, the story itself was pretty engaging (Pretty curious as to why you're being ordered to harvest those creatures)

Man, the setting is really interesting - it would be awesome if you continued to work on this game.
