Cyclopean Clicker by deathray

[raw]
made by deathray for LD33 (COMPO)
Note:
- If you're using the Ludum Dare embedded game, please view in fullscreen. The game requires a somewhat tall screen.
- Only tested for the latest Chrome browser.
- This game was made in less than 24 hours, so please excuse the lack of refinement (especially in the lack of graphics for opponents and arms!) :)
- Check out the Post-compo version for much better balance, bosses, and opponent animations.

This game is a typical clicker/incremental game, inspired by Tap Titans. You being the game in the cyclopean dimension, a safe-haven. Click the "Earth" button to begin your conquest of Earth. Click anywhere to fire your laser eye, and collect skulls to trade in for upgrades.

Written in JavaScript / HTML5 / CSS3 using js libraries: jQuery and RocketBoots. Fonts are from Google Fonts. Everything else was lovingly hand-crafted using Sublime Text and Chrome.

I was really hoping to see new limbs growing as I upgraded my stuff, but it still feels like a solid start. Good use of the theme!

The structure of this works well as a typical incremental game, though I think the genre itself has been overdone to the point that it's not easy to distinguish oneself despite the good theme and polished graphics.

Finally a dynamic clicker ! Even if this game genre has been made tons of time, it's a good work in less than 24h.

I think the genre -- even if overdone a bit -- is perfect for game jams where there's not enough time to make something more complex. I always try to add in a new twist in some way. Hope some people enjoy it! (Hint: The post-compo one is more fun, if you're looking to play for fun and not for jam judging purposes.)

The health bar is a nice way to prevent people from just letting the game run in the background for a few hours.
But at the same time the health is hard and boring to replenish(each point missing is a second!)
The fact the mobs get better is also interesting.
