DigDig by Overlix
Dear family,
It's been a long time since I left home. But I feel I'm close to the end. I've ventured deep into the mine, and now I can't return until I've fulfilled my goal.
Love you all.

Mine rare materials, upgrade your gear, and push your construction talents beyond the limits. Each layer hides new secrets… and greater challenges.
How far will you go...Will you reach the end?

About the game

I like voxel and digging
But after digging for 5–10 minutes, I still couldn’t figure out how to craft anything besides the pickaxe and the lamp :(
I'd hazard a guess that the 72 hour time limit prevented these issues from being discovered / addressed, so with that this is a great game. I love the voxel aesthetic, the little cave lights, and the simplicity of the ui.
However ! The atmosphere, the sound and the design are amazing. It really feels like you're deep underground.
When I stopped playing I had my headphones on and I forgot to turn the game off. I realized 10min later that I had the music loop in my ears and it didnt bother me at all because it's a great vibe.
It's pleasant to have your feedbacks.
For your information we are currently looking about what can cause massive performances issues on certain hardware.
Will also try to add some fixes to improve your experience in general.
So my laptop didn't have much of an issue running this game, I didn't see any noticeable frame drops or stuttering, but it definitely got hot which I can tell by my fans as well as just feeling my laptop (i5-12450h, 3050 mobile and 16gb ram).
I got relatively far, I got up to the diamond pickaxe (not handle but I can't think what the top part is called). As far as I can tell all the ores do spawn you just need to go deeper for better ores, which is normal for a mining game. So people that couldn't get past the iron and coal crafting just didn't dig deep enough.
The only issue I could see was that when mining you could sometimes see through the walls, my guess is that it's because the back of the ground isn't rendered and sometimes when you mine it takes a second to render the newly generated ground. For a game jam game that's not an issue, but if you guys decide to take this game further you'd want to look into that.
Honestly as an unreal game this is extremely impressive. The mechanics are extremely unique and I didn't really think something like this would be possible in unreal engine, but you guys proved me wrong. You often hear about this super realistic games that often seem to be extremely similar in the way they approach visuals and mechanics. This game has such a unique art style and plays so differently from a typical unreal game which I really enjoy.
Sorry for the long comment btw
Good effort!

viz @lollister
When i looked up or down the game would lag depending on my depth. I also couldn't place lanterns. You can also get research on things you've already researched which led me to loose my progress.
There were also giant purple cubes that stopped me from moving. But they would go away after a while.

Apart from that, the progression was nice and the feeling of digging was very enjoyable. I'm a bit sad that there's no ending after falling into the final hollow layer... but I love the (way too much) time I spent playing. Well done
But yeah... it kinda melts my computer — classic Unreal Engine moment
Edit: I did actually reach the edge eventually. But still it's a really large area to explore.
The visual style and audio design are really good and fit perfectly. Voxel destroing is fun and satisfing. I liked digging deeper and finding upgrades, even, if i was getting only 10fps.
Props on using unreal.
