Camp Ketosis by Genesis

[raw]
made by Genesis for Ludum Dare 57 (JAM)

"Camp Ketosis" follows Rob, a guy so bored on a Friday night that even a keto retreat brochure (despite his zero interest in dieting) seems mildly appealing. But when he arrives, he discovers the horrifying truth: the retreat is a front for a sentient mushroom colony using keto compliance to brainwash recruits. Luckily, Rob’s lifelong diet of pizza and skepticism makes him immune to their carb-deficient mind control. Now, trapped in a deep cave, he must fistfight his way through an army of keto-zombies and fungal cultists.

I was a little confused but the intro was very cinematic and the movement felt very nice!

The premise of the game is very amusing, so lots of props for creativity there. Punching all the mushrooms dudes felt very satisfying.

I wish the art was a little more consistent- the in-game art, cutscene art, and title screen art all being different styles (presumably AI?) but the game isn't being judged for graphics anyhow. The voice lines were pretty good for AI as well. The cut from the cutscene to the game itself feels a bit jarring.

Simple, amusing, and fun, good work!

Absolutely awesome presentation! And the idea was pretty unique too!

I wish I could change the mouse sensitivity during the game, it was pretty slow for me personally.

The opening is awesome. The framerate is pretty low on the browser for me, but the combat should feel good if at regular frame rate.

The character controller and movement feel are really great. I fell in love with the 2D art. The game could have been more optimized for the web. The music and SFX at the beginning are excellent. Overall, my experience was positive.

I wander if 2d art is ai generated. Cover art looks cool

I really enjoyed the art style of the mushroom zombies! The first one snuck up on me and spooked me a bit which was really fun. It was a bit difficult for me to tell where my punch was going to hit, but overall great job.

Took me a second to get into it, but punching the mushrooms was oddly satisfying. Great work!

The beautiful ladies were a lie! Haha I have no idea what happened between the cutscene and the actual gameplay but I appreciate the humor of it. Took me a minute to get a handle on hitting the mushrooms without them hitting me. The intro did look a little like AI generated though, wonder if you can shed some light on that?
