Pawndemonium by RascarCapackDev

[raw]
made by RascarCapackDev for Ludum Dare 57 (JAM)

You died on the checkerboard and now you are in hell ! Reach the Pawndemonium at the deepest level to reclaim your soul, but beware: in this infernum the rules of chess may seem...unnatural.

I started super late so the game has no sound, and only 2 enemy types (including the boss).

Killed the Demon Kind on the 3rd level. That's a nice little game that one could expand quite a lot given more time. Good work!

I managed to beat the two first levels but I can't move at all when entering the third one. When leaving the second level, I can see the demon king spawning in level 2 but not on level 3.
The game is very cool despite the bug. It's a great concept, congratulations !

Very neat idea and a jolly good expeerince~ Though I wish there was some feedback audio wise. Also, there's a bug if you click on yourself you get to fly around a bit, which is interesting or instakill fellas. Good game overall, athough a tiny bit too short perhaps is the main gripe!

Nice little game idea that can certainly be expanded! Yes, a bit of sound feedback would have been even better, even if it was just click clack - but considering the time, it's totally okay! The art style is pretty cool and the setting - the demons and the fact that you descend deeper and deeper - fits the theme perfectly.

It's a neat concept I hope you expand on it. There's lots of potential for it as a puzzle game. I do think that being able to stall by clicking on the same tile as the white pawn is a bit counter-intuitive and is not mentioned in game still interesting if it was intended.

This was an awesome idea, you killed it! It's short but really good.

Like how it was a board game, different vibe than most other games so far!

Interesting game concept! The second level was a really clever piece of design. I do wish the game was a little longer, though.

Absolutely love the concept — chess meets hell is such a clever combo! The aesthetic is tight and the demon mechanics are super fun to explore. Would totally play a full version of this! Only thing I really missed was some background music and movement effect — it would elevate the atmosphere so much.

Like all the other reviews, I find the concept extremely interesting and I want to see how you could continue to dig deeper to develop new ideas and new game situations...

I also had a lot of fun with the concept once I properly understood what I was doing! I beat the demon king on level 3, and was kind of bummed out that there wasn't more to play - Well done! :)

Great game. It is simple and short, but really good in idea. I think it is possible to add more to this idea. At first, I died at the level with the demon, and thought that it was kinda harsh to reset all progress, but then I found that was all 3 levels, so it's actually not a problem. I also want to add that the graphics are great and clean. Also, it is very cool that the game loads so fast on itch.io. I wonder how you managed to do this.

Maybe the only downside that I can find is the lack of a visual hint where the enemy can go/eat, or even my pawn. A simple hint that marks cells when I hover on a pawn would be great.

Anyway, great game, had fun playing it.

I definitely would LOVE to see other inverted figures not only to fight them, but to just look at their design! Surely there is space to grow in effects, but the solid base and appealing setting is more than enough for 3 days jam.

It lacks sounds. Also my full screen did not make the game bigger.
Though it's a very nice idea for both theme and puzzle. Art fits well.

This idea has much potential to develop into a bigger game! Nice graphics and interesting use of the theme. Congrats

Nice game! I enjoyed it and would like an expanded version. As someone else mentioned full screen did not make the game larger so I had to squint a bit to see the text, but managed to beat the king quickly. I think the swapping ability was a bit wonky as he swapped to the position literally in front of me without any backup.

Although quite simple (like the king just randomly swapping to a piece right in front of mine), I would love a bigger version of this, as it seems like a relatively unique puzzle game! Big fan of the artstyle, and fun take on the theme!
