Job: Elevator! by Infernaton

[raw]
made by Infernaton for Ludum Dare 57 (COMPO)

New Job earned!

The engine that managing the elevator is broken...

It's now your job to replace it!

Goal

Carry as much passenger as possible.

Control

Use the UI on screen to go up, downward or open the doors of the elevator

Compatible with keyboard, using Arrow Key and Space to move or opening the doors.

(Need testing for Controler)

Important Note: The elevator won't move if theirs doors are opened.

Tips

There are two type of passenger: red and blue one. The first one always want to go upward while the other want to go downward.

The elevator have only 4 seat inside it. Open your door only for the one who aren't demanding too much manipulation. But don't forget any ! There are not repute to be patient people...

Known issue:

  • The Ludum embed do not seem to work on Chrome. Try to use the one on my itch.io page
  • Bug: We can exceed the maximum capacity of the elevator if the remaining seat is lower than the number of passenger waiting in the current floor (Ex: current capacity - 3/4; number of waiting passenger - 2. It will take the 2 passengers and display 5/4)

Really like the art and mood of the game!
For some reason elevator grab more than capacity threshold sometimes.

Great game. I had a similar one played on my C64 years ago. I like those puzzle games. I hope you had a good time.

Nice little game fitting the theme!

Funny how I made basically the same exact game many years ago once with the only difference of the elevator having a capacity of 5 instead of 4 people xD

Good job, doing that in one weekend though!

@pavlov36 Thanks you! I know this bug, I found it when I submit the game, but because it was not a major issue, I didn't even try to fix it haha

@psychomonster Thanks! Not surprise this concept had already been published, it's such a silly game. And yeah, it was fun to make

@grid96 Thank you for you comment. I can give you the same response as psychomonster, I'm not surprise you already made a game like this, it's really simple to make. But it fit as a concept for this Jam! I wanted for this one to challenge myself on making all the assets, I didn't want to struggle to find a super original concept. And that's the result!

Nice take on the theme, works weels, has a cool art style and the difficulty curve is great. Congrats!

I like this! I made a game very similar to it a few years ago: https://kristinamay.itch.io/which-floor-please

Anyway, my only feedback here is that I didn't know when I was about to lose (I assumed the rows would need to fill up), and the location of the elevator felt finnicky (a few times I opened the elevator and I was slightly off, despite it visually seeming like I was in there, yeah I should look at the lightup signs but I was FOCUSED lol). Cool game, good work!

Cool game! It took me a minute to figure out the controls, but once I did it was pretty fun!

@raivk @x2shadow Thanks you!

@kristinamay Thank you for playing! Like I said on a previous response, I'm not really surprise there similar games out there x)
To respond to your feedback, the only thing that tell you, that you're about to lose is when the passenger are "vibrating", it tell that they lose patience, they will be in this state for 10 sec before the gameover title comes. I was thinking to put a time bar to show accuretly this remaining time, but i just feel it will not be good looking on the screen.
For the location of the elevator, I understand clearly what you mean haha. It was good enough on the development phase, it's basically a ceil/floor function depending if the last movement was upward or downward, so if the player make a tiny adjustment on the other direction the floor position might return a different output.

@ljg Also thanks you! Was it the openned doors that bother you at first?

The best score I could get is 27. While the idea is fun, I quickly reached a point where
losing seemed inevitable regardless of what I did. This was with or without paying mind to the color of the passenger.

Cool, I always wanted to be an elevator! I enjoyed the quirky concept, though there's not much to do after a couple minutes. It's fun to imagine the confusion of the passengers. Neat visuals, and all in all a very complete game - modest in scope, but delivers on that scope with polish. Well done!

A strange entry with an interesting gameplay. It reminds me of another game with some similar mechanics - **Mini Metro**. The way you fit with the theme is unusual. I had fun playing. Thank you for this project - and for your comment about my own game. I wish you the best ++

I really like the simplicity of the gameplay. The sound effects are a nice touch, although some cheesy elevator music would be a nice touch too. It would be cool to have some kind of progression like more floors or multiple elevators to manage. Also some keyboard controls would make it a bit easier. Well done

Great job!

I miss an elevator music, though! :joy:

Well executed, congrats for having all you've made in a COMPO timeframe

Good entry, really like the pixel art and the soundeffects!
As already mentioned, a little bit of background music would have been even more enticing, but given that this game is a compo entry, the sound effects were more than enough.

Is there a end to this game ? Best score: 36

Quite hard but I managed to just go from top to bottom then bottom to top and opening doors at the wanted floor. not the best elevator but at least it works ^^'

Liked the graphics and the GUI is intuitive (even if it fears me at first sight)
