Sonar by Kawair

[raw]
made by Kawair for Ludum Dare 57 (JAM)

This game was made by one developer for 3 hours. Because I have lots of class this term and only can finish this when I back to my dorm after 10p.m. 😭

You can press left mouse to use sonar to detect the landform of the sea every 3 sec ,and use "WASD" to move the submarine. The goal is to reach as deep as you can before your oxygen run out. Good LUCK!!!

Actually there's some one I'd like to say thx is my girl "Rain."

I really appreciate that she is always by my side!

I couldn't get deeper than 115 meters (I couldn't find a passage). I find it quite difficult to know which direction you're looking in, putting some kind of gyroscope in the UI would be very practical  . Congratulations on managing to create a game in 3 hours! It's super impressive :astonished:

I've made games like this before, so I'm a fan of yours. Always like navigating in the dark with some twist like your sonar. Only wish for a bit more feedback from it when you're stuck in a cave. I played twice and both times got stuck at 120m or so in a cave system that I couldn't find the exit to. But I agree with the above poster, for three hours this is great.

Also like the background music.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I love the cover art, feels very LD to me :)

Thanks for above three poster a lot! If there’s any chance I will fix them. I only left a small hole to pass around -110m to -130m that because I want to level up the difficulty (Maybe that too much lol),the gyro and some more tips is a good idea! Maybe I’ll add a navigator when you stuck at somewhere too long or a route memo in the future! Thanks for all your advices! Wish our games can be played by more and more players!

Route memo sounds like a great idea, not too hard to put together, and would be a good way to introduce different levels if you do opt to expand the project.

I like the vibe, ALONE IN DEEP SEA ONLY WITH LIDAR...

That's a cool game! Managed to get to ~400m. It appeared to be a little challenging for me, but I love it's overall atmosphere!

btw, why not submit it as a COMPO entry?

Felt like a game I'd wanna play when I'm too tired to think. I managed to get to around 120 m. It took me some time to realize I was going the wrong way at first LOL, realized it only when I saw that depth was negative. It's challenging but doesn't make you think a lot, which is what I liked.

It's nice to get a game done in three hours. very amazing . But I am didn't get the game in the first time. I recommend adding a small tutorial. even it's only a picture diagram

For a 3 hour Game Jam submission this is pretty interestingly done, I actually imagine it would be a pretty fun game in more polished version, reminds me of Iron Lung with a mix of Lidar. But already this is pretty neat! Good luck on your further games!

I have always liked games with a explore by using sonar or echolocation mechanics, and this is no exception. While simple due to your time limit it is well put together, and the main mechanic is done well. As someone who has also crammed a game into just a couple hours of a jam in the past I am very impressed, you even got some simple music into it. Fantastic work!

Came here because of the cover art. Very well done for 3 hours. Was tough to know what to do but had fun exploring. Nice work!

Nice work for such a short amount of time, the sonar effect is really cool. I couldn't get past 120 meters but it was fun trying to find the next way down! Cool level design, and it looked good in game too, nice and spooky. All around a really impressive entry for how little time you had to work on it, great job!

Pretty solid for a 3-hour project! Setting aside the usual stuff like movement tweaks and content depth, I think the main thing I missed was a map or some kind of gyroscope. Also — just personal preference — I usually enjoy games more when there’s a clear win condition instead of just “score as many points as you can.”

You had the most efficient 3 hours =)
I really liked how sonar is made. Sometimes sonar pattern is not square but in shape of 2 triangles.
The combination of simplicity and effectiveness of the solution for sonar is superb.

Nice concept!
Really cool idea, especially considering the short dev time -- it’s got a solid foundation and a neat atmosphere. Moving around in 3D space was interesting, though I think having something on the HUD to help with orientation or direction would make navigation a lot smoother.

Overall, great job pulling this together within the short time window!

Very impressive for 3 hours work - congratulations of making the time. Loved the sonar effect - no wonder you called the game that! :)
