Tiny Brigades by nataku92
Welcome to Tiny Brigades, a card-based, action-engine builder roguelike! Recruit tiny creatures to your tiny brigades to defeat Not-So-Tiny Slime.
We recommend you play the web version at https://kevinbchen.itch.io/tiny-brigades for a larger window!
Instructions
Each turn, you can:
- Play a CREATURE, adding it to a brigade
- Play a SPELL, with an instant effect
- Play your BRIGADE, which starts with your only Brigade Hero, but will play every creature ability in your brigade. You can only play each brigade once per turn.
As a tiny creature you can see what Not-So-Tiny Slime is planning next, so carefully manage your mana, cards & brigades to come out victorious!
We had fun making this game, so we hope you have fun too!

I seem to occasionally hit a bug where after ending a turn, the boss doesn't do anything, leading to an unfortunate soft-lock.
Very neat, though!
First victory, I went and played a few more rounds after with a mana-generation build and some HP stuff. Really really fun!

Special mention to the incredible music piece here !
Really cool! Died a few times at first but then it clicked for me and I had a lot of fun. My winning strategy consisted of gathering enough "Block" so that Not-So-Tiny-Slime would never be able to hurt me anymore. The downside was not having a lot of attacking power ^^°
Of course, I also had to try 1000HP mode. At I think it was the halfway point I thought that it sure would be nice if there was a way to speed things up a bit. At least in that mode.
Cool entry!
@davidsheadgames thank you! game is pretty imbalanced from throwing it all together quickly haha a lot more fun mechanics we can do now that we like the foundation. also looked into soft-lock issue, i think also people get hung up on being asked to discard at end of turn which we'll need to tweak
@rodgems @zeq
thanks! lotta similar feedback around brigade confusion, so we may switch to making it a card that is always in your hand (maybe flips over upon use)
@ejunegao it's a little crazy but @nataku92 did the coding, music, and art. so yea they pretty much did everything, i just did some of the game design and... uh some words. very glad to hear the art is to your liking!
@coke thanks!! haha i just learned about this jam last week... you're right it could work for summon too!
@poboy we laughed a lot at this feedback. slay the wingspan was our starting point. so... boy do we have a game for you!
@hangovergames most definitely will work on a tutorial/first play next time!
@vhalenn thank you! yes game is definitely imbalanced but thank you for calling out the music!! @nataku92 did an amazing job with it
@sockenpuppe thank you! we're so glad you enjoyed it. and yea the 1000 hp challenge we just threw in last minute so that it didn't end too quickly. maybe adding an auto-button so it just spams all the brigades and ends turn would be a nice little feature!
thanks again everyone!! was a ton of fun
Regardless, great job!
The graphics are really cute, so is the soundtrack. I was a bit confused what exactly to do at the beginning and the overall layout of the game elements is a bit convoluted.
But a nice game overall, I enjoyed it!
@regmont haha thank you! adding the word "actually" before fun meant a lot here! hahaha
@kseniya @andriana-mantidfly thank you!!
@f1krazy thank you for taking the time to write us this thoughtful comment! i think what excites us most about our game is that it's just the beginning; once we have a basic foundation that we like, we can add a lot more interesting card mechanics for new strategies and synergies not only b/w the cards but b/w the heroes. hopefully we'll have more to share with you in the future!
The balance is in my opinion totally fine considering that you only had the three days of working on this game. I think if you will work further on this game, it is really important that you get a lot of playtesters, who will try different strategies, so you can see what is OP and what is more on the weak side.
The visuals look good and I like the different colours for the different lanes with "grey cards" fitting in every lane. So I always saw what my next move could be.
The boss was also a nice concept with an "attacking" and a more "defensive" round. This part of the game could also get advanced in the future, to get more variety into the game. Different bosses with different abilities would add depth to a post-release.
I talked a lot about future-stuff, but it should show you that I really like this game you released, because I did not see any major flaws which reduce the fun of the gameplay. Good job for finishing this very polished game! :)
Improving the minions with additonal is such a nice concept, also it was relatively easy to get going after the first few turns.
Thank you for this game and thank you for spending your time to write instructions in the game ^^ Great jam entry
