Happy Bees by Lunaria Rava

[raw]
made by Lunaria Rava for Ludum Dare 56 (JAM)

A little puzzle game. Place beehives and flowers, and watch cute bees buzzing around collecting pollen!

title3.png

How to play (see also ingame tips): - Place cards adjacent to existing tiles. - Bees collect pollen from flowers around the hive, but will not fly more than two tiles away. - The top of each card shows what pollen the hive will need to produce honey. Make sure the correct flowers are nearby. - Once a hive has gathered enough pollen, it will produce honey, rewarding you with a new tile! - The game starts off with only one type of flower available, but you'll quickly unlock more. - Use Left Click to select cards and place them down. - Use the Scroll Wheel to rotate tiles before placing. - Hold Right Click while moving the mouse to pan the camera.

Hi ! For security reasons, I'm not executing forein .exe on my computer. Is it possible to have it compiled in html5 and put on itchio.io ? I see you use Godot, here is a quick tuto is don't known how to :

Hey @nicolas-diniz, Godot only supports HTML Export for games written with GDScript. Since I've used C#, I can't make a web build :/

The bees are so Cuteeee! If we can have a lovely bgm in this game, it will be more attractive :rosette: (BTW, I also have a jam work. If you can have a try and leave some suggestions, we will be very grateful! THX! )

Wow, absolutely delightful. I could play this game all day! It reminds me of dorfromantik, but with cute little bees (and more forgiving adjacency rules). The cards are drawn and slide over in a very satisfying fashion! I missed that you could rotate the tiles, which is a good feature. I did have one misclick that ruined the aesthetic of my meadow, but I was eventually able to get the bees some flowers so it all worked out.

The amount of polished this game is just insane. Small detail like when you move around your camera and the unfinished honey works left at the bottom UI is very good UX. No need tutorial, it's just intuitive enough, even if you failed at first.

Smart level design, you need to finish some of the task until more flower archetypes introduced.

I just wished there's at least SFX to bring up the game.

It's so relaxing yet exciting to watch my bee empire expand beyond the borders of my screen. The game mechanics are easy to understand and give me a vibe similar to Tetrisβ€”placing building blocks in the right positions so the bees can get what they need to grow and expand.

The artwork is simple and concise, and it works well for the game. However, the lack of audio effects and BGM is a missed opportunityβ€”adding these could elevate the experience even further. I hope to see those elements in your post-jam version!

Great job overall, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this game evolves!

Thank you all for your kind feedback!

I sadly had no time to add any Audio, I wish I could've added at least some BGM. It does indeed feel stale without .

@zhuub "Dorfromantik but with bees" is how I explained it to friends of mine, too  it originally started with square tiles, but I had to change it - what would a bee game be without hexagons?

This was a demanding puzzle. I was able to play the first 50 tiles with very hive being directly adjacent to the flowers it needed. I kept going to 180, at which point I felt it was too difficult to keep track of everything. It would have been nice if the game could expand to take up a full screen so I could see more at once.

Overall, a very good game.

@tesseract A score of 180 is very impressive!
The game definitely loses some playability at such scores. This is something I delayed for a potential post-jam version, resizing to fullscreen introduced too many UI bugs...

Thank you very much for playing & for your feedback!

Thank you for your really great submission!

The graphics and animations of the bees are absolutely adorable! I also found the game really fun to playβ€”my high score was 36 honey.

Adding some sound would definitely enhance the experience even more!

The linux build works perfectly fine!

I love the cute graphics and the hexagons. We need more games with hexagons, squares are boring.

The gameplay is well balanced and easy to understand: it starts off easy, then becomes harder over time, and we have to think before placing a new tile.

Sometimes we can get a card for a hive that requires a flower we don't have any card for yet, but we usually get one in the next 2-3 cards so it's not a huge issue.

I agree with the comment above, music and sounds are the only things missing for a complete game!

Honestly, I could have kept playing for a long time. With some music, something calming or even upbeat, I would have no problem staring at my growing colonies for an hour!

I really liked how this all progressed. At first, the challenge seemed simple enough, but it scaled nicely. I pulled myself out of a jam around card 42, and I saw that I really had to start planning my placements. The graphics were simple to understand and well color-coded. Really, I have no complaints. Well done!

This gets pretty crazy pretty quick! I like the hex layout, but would have appreciated some more shapes (like 'diamonds' or 't's). A little bit of audio would have helped with some player feedback stuff. I unfortunately didn't get to see all the data on my screen (likely because I'm playing on an old widescreen tv instead of a modern monitor); no amount of resizing allowed me to see the "current goal" or the give up option.

Still, it's a clean game. I had fun! Good job.

Fun, chill game. I love games about placing hexes on a board, this is a great example of why. The slow ramp of complexity as more flower types are added is great. I did not notice until I was looking at the page to write this review that I could rotate tiles, so that would probably have made my life easier, but the game never giving me any tiles with pink flowers on them also made it hard to get past 75. I would have liked to be able to zoom the map out a little more, but overall I thought that the UI was excellent. Great game jam entry!

So good! I could play this forever. It just needs full screen and some sounds and it would be perfect.
