The Mims by Curtis Pelissier

[raw]
made by Curtis Pelissier for Ludum Dare 56 (JAM)

In this game, players can summon unique creatures called Mims using cards. Each Mim has specific needs and particular preferences: some enjoy being surrounded by their kind, while others prefer solitude or specific environments. The objective of the game is simple: make your Mims as happy as possible by fulfilling their needs.

Players must not only choose the right Mims to summon but also ensure they create an environment that fosters their happiness. A happy Mim generates happiness points, which can then be used to summon new creatures.

However, be careful: maintaining the Mims' happiness requires skillful management, as their needs may change over time, and unhappy creatures can disrupt the overall balance of your team. Will you be able to create a world where each Mim lives in joy and harmony?

Okay, I loved this game! The creatures were all so cute and I loved reading the flavor text on their cards. I was able to get way more coins that I could spend, so I had my pick of the tiny buddies! Only thing I wish I could do is remove mims from enclosures or relocate them. Awesome game, thanks for sharing!

So cute ! I love the way the player have to organise the enclosures to keep everybody happy ! When they are a lot of enclosures, it could be cool to skip the "happiness count animation" to save time. As Reiale said, it would be awesome to delete or relocate creatures. Well done :)

I LOVE THIS GAME!! Having the happiness of your little creatures as both the currency and the goal is genius; it makes me feel really close to the creature. The music is also great, I could listen to it forever! And I like the style of 2D sprites with the shadows. However, there are some things I didn’t like. The creatures have nice flavor and abilities, but they are way too simple looking. I always end up with too many happy points, which makes the whole currency system a bit pointless. I also think the game should stop the player from buying cards if they already have 5 in hand, it feels like a waste. The happy counter noise is a bit loud, but the option menu fixed that! A way to remove or relocate monsters would be really nice, as it would give more flexibility to the gameplay and eliminate the feeling of being stuck, and the sadness of not being able to do anything if my little creature is sad. Even with some issues, I LOVE THE GAME!! So well done!!

This game is really cute and clever! I love the puzzle aspect of it, and there is a great mood. But some aspects of it where not totally clear to me, like the fact that you can enclose only 4 creatures in every square. This lead me to a lot of weeks without the ability to do anything 😅 Also, the earning phase is satisfying but after a few unlocks, it become really slow. Still, I had a lot of fun playing 😊

Okay I usually am a bit worried of games that I have to download but considering we made super similar style choices I had to try!
Gosh I love it. The mood, music, style, everything made me smile and was super satisfying. Thanks I had a ton of fun playing it <3

This one is super cute. However, as other mentioned before, it triggers my OCD by not being able to rearrange my Mims. Once you do a mistake you can not correct yourself. Also it would be nice to have an option to discard Mims from your hand to make room for better options.

I really like the art style of this game, and the process of playing it is very smooth! The interaction design is great too! Thank you for sharing, I am a new game maker, I really should learn more from you!Coincidentally, we also made a card type game!

Very cute! Boy, I guess I screwed some stuff up and there's no going back :(

The first thing I did was put a minotaur in the first pen, but that only breaks even so I don't really get the point of that creature. I also couldn't tell why my cordon bleu was sad.

Fun little addicting game. I made the mistake of putting two of the brown fluffies in one pen thinking they'd be cool with eachother but that zapped my score. Still fun to unlock new critters and try to place them strategically. I thought the "God bless ye merry gentlemen" song cover was kind of misplaced, mostly bc I kept thinking about the Ronnie James Dio cover of it lol - vibe was there tho.

So cute!! god the art is so perfect. I agree with many an undo would be nice, as well as a way to skip the scoring animation. Wish there was a way to expand the size of a enclosure, like maybe the carapace can always fit in and then when he leave an extra spot is free for someone new. Cordon-blue is my fav

1000 score wooo!

super cute and relaxing game, it's a bit long for a jam but i think i could play it all day ? xD i didn't understood that i couldn't move the mims at start so i made some bad moves that later came back pretty badly so maybe some advices like "you can't move after placing them, chose carefully !" should suffice to start the game. I trully love how complex it became after a long time, like u need to pay attention to the neighboring and all. but maybe it seems a bit too easy in early game.

Solid well polished game! You intuitively understand what happens and the visual and music set the mood. The phase with the score can get a bit repetitive. Congratulations on this entry!

Got really hooked on this and played it for wayyyy longer than I meant to! Made it through a year though after a wobbly first go at it. Took me a bit of time to understand the difference between an enclosure and a neighbourhood, but managed to figure it out early enough on in my 2nd go that it didn't cause too much trouble!

The creature designs are brilliantly adorable. Seeya's probably my favourite!

I really liked the idea. I really enjoyed playing it. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to color-code important words in the text, for example). Or make the shadows not so low resolution. But I really liked it.

Enjoyed the mellow music and the soft and colorful graphics. Wished things were a bit more dynamic in making a more difficult management problem / speed up scoring. Is there an end condition?
