GROWL by Ulydev
How monstrously hard can a game be ?
GROWL is a clearly Hexagon-inspired game (no need to point it out!) that focuses on hard gameplay and visual experimentations.
Using the arrows keys (or the shoulder buttons for a 360 gamepad), you have to rotate your laser and line up the red rectangle on it with the circle at the end of each note. The note you currently need to complete is represented in green.
You can check out the gameplay video before playing, so that you know how the game works.
"PRACTICE MODE" : Press Left Shift (or Select/Back on controller) to make the game go slower. Your score won't be saved.
/Get to 30s, then 60s and you'll be rewarded with some visual changes/

My next goal is to get to 60 seconds, wish me luck
Great job!
Nice game, the music is great and the mechanics interesting. The screen shake might be a bit too intense and repetitive after a certain time but it works, even though a diversity in the visual effects is more than welcome. Great game nontheless, good job!
Pretty fun to play. Good job.
So, you perhaps need to be a little better at explaining this game. I appreciate the sound play plays every time you complete a note, but it's not obvious at a glance whether or not a not is in range or not. When you complete one, it flashes again for a moment, which sometimes leads me to believe that it has not in fact been completed, and I need to go back to it. It also took me a while to figure out what the whole note-completion thing was about; I didn't fully understand how to play for a while.
That said, once understood, it's a very nice fun and compelling game. You've got a nice gem on your hands here. The vigorous shaking of the screen at all times, you would think would be distracting, but no. Instead it simply serves to make the whole experience more intense. I was urged to defeat my previous highscore before 48s, so it's definitely something that I like to play repeatedly. Fun stuff, sir.
Thanks for the feedback anyways.
So, in order to fix that, I finally solved a bug that used to display the wrong path for the next note -and thus getting people even more confused-. Please try it and tell me if there's anything other that confuses you (hopefully not).
Thanks in advance for all the comments and criticism -I realise you do this to help me improve myself-.
Top-notch production values. TOP NOTCH. Great effects and music. REALLY COOL.
But your game communication is terrible, sorry. The goal isn't to "complete notes", it's just to line up the red rectangle with the circle. That's all. Everything else is visual and gameplay clutter. So you should have visually linked the thing that is the red rectangle and the things that are the the circles at the end of each of the lines. That is all, really.
The theme is also utterly unrelated :/
The fact that you can be in a state where your red rectangle has become impossible to hit the circle because it's gone past it is frustrating. The game is over but you have to wait to die. The wait's not long, but you KNOW it's happening and it really should just end it there. Or you change the mechanic to prevent that.
love the hexagon game and other for it's great gameplay difficulty. You have a very nice gameplay too
Got 80s with first time :D
Glad to see hard games on LD
I had to read the instructions to figure out how to play this and even now I'm not *100%* convinced I understand it exactly. It seems like you can destroy lines if the laser sweeps paste the circle on the end, but only if they're within a certain range and only if you're going a specific direction?
I'm giving you detailed feedback cos honestly I feel like this is really promising. I'd actually really love a more basic down to earth version of this with raw gameplay at its heart rather than flashy effects. :)
Also in my opinion camera shake was to violent and redundant.
if these things would be there it would be a really good game.
This game is, as you already mentioned, pretty similar. You managed to nail the visual style, it is gorgeous. The music and sounds are also really neat. Gameplay-wise it is a nice variation of Hexagon and just as hard, I barely made it to 30s. :)
Overall, it is a very enjoyable game, good job!
I liked the bright, neon, shaky graphics but the shake might just be slightly too over the top, tone it down just a little bit and it'll be perfect :)
LukeZaz, that's very appreciated :)
