Blue Helmet Beatdown by madjackmcmad

[raw]
made by madjackmcmad for LD33 (COMPO)
Fast moving arcade action with monsters aplenty, constant explosions, and the full might of the United Nations.

Spawned in a completely ethical secret wetworks UN lab funded by FIFA and the IMF, you know only the yearning for freedom and the treads you are somehow attached to. Free other monsters to pick them up and add to your rolling crew of bizarre creations. New mechanics unfold for the first 9 waves, then you're playing for high score in an increasingly challenging pattern of enemies, bosses, and madcap bonus stages.

Pretty cool! I like the new mechanics added each level. I played up to the wave 10 boss and, man, did he explode.

279,990 - Wave 9. Got beaten by the Dhali Bomber.
Best entry I have played thus far. So much content! Great powerups too.
Only thing it is lacking is some music!

Fun game ^^
A music would have been nice, but there is already plenty of contents :) I went until Wave 13 with 445080 points, after some times where I thought I would never die (but there is a point where you suddenly see how you could die ^^).
Unexpected and funny :)

Nice work! I ended up at near 600K points and wave 15. For the last few levels I was just holding the space bar, but overall I had a lot of fun with it. The text was hilarious BTW. "No-bid overpriced swoopy jet incoming", haha... So good.

Great job! Made it level 8 and 300k. Loved the stacking of all the powerups. Screen got busy in a good way. Nothing beats stomping on Orphans I always say. Great job for 48 hours.

Fun game! I liked the mechanics a lot--straight-forward to learn, easy to master at first, then building in complexity. Have you considered adding a bit of risk/reward to the shooting, like an overheating mechanic if you just shoot nonstop?

@Laralyn: I've seen some scrolling shooters that use that mechanic and they always leave me aghast. Who makes a shmup that doesn't let you shoot all the time? Probably the same type of people who use the word "gamefeel" :) Typical the skill test isn't conserving ammo but rather something else, usually weaving through bullet streams or trying to keep focused on a particular enemy weak point. Here, I wanted the main skill test to be jumping -- over pits and combo jumping on buildings. There is a secondary consideration of not shooting briefly to ensure that your next shot is an alpha strike from all your monsterbros, but that's only useful in the beginning when you have a small party.

I really enjoyed this scrolling shooter - chaotic and fun. Nice graphics.

965790 was my final score. Your game is hilarious. My main problem is that, like in so many shooters, there's no reason not to hold down the fire button forever.

I made it to wave 29 with 2,277,840 points. I kept getting pleasantly surprised by the different bosses.

At some point I felt like I was invincible and at the end I felt like I couldn't help but lose. I don't know if it was fatigue or if the difficulty ramped up or what.

I loved how so much was flying on the screen creating chaos, especially when the scrolling sped up.

I find the UN an odd choice to demonize in this game, but it provided a great collection of names to modify for the boss battles.

A solid game.

Fun game; I made it to wave 19. Wasn't sure what was going on half the time, but had a good time doing it. :)
