Weaver by inre-dan

made by inre-dan for Ludum Dare 56 (JAM)

Sling webs and stalk prey to survive in this beautiful but treacherous forest glade.

Use Left Click to shoot webs towards branches and webs, allowing you to hunt insects and gain energy. You can destroy webs with Right Click and jump with Space. Creating webs and jumping will take energy, which can only be regained by eating bugs - be mindful of your resources and stay alive for as long as you can!

Having more webs will allow you to move faster towards insects, and you can also sling yourself towards other insects using web tension!

Great job! For me, this is a completely new and cool mechanic. I got the most positive experience of the game. A great idea and a good implementation (the spider clings to cobweb in a very funny way)

The web mechanics are incredibly clever; I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this before. The way you highlight damaged parts of the web and how you can connect everything to build a complete cobweb is amazing. The attention to detail is impressive and adds so much depth to the gameplay.

Props for music volume settings and arachnophobia mode. I reallly enjoyed web physics and process of building it. Spider legs animation is nice too. Indication of web breaking was intuitive and nice, sometimes though I had web splitting in middle unexpected, guess when i was at the middle and shooting it to the trees. Dunno if it was intentional or not :)
BTW, when web gets bigger, some parts of it goes down under the screen so flies spawn(or dont :D) offscreen and your only means to replenish energy is to wait top spawns or hope bottom will fall off eventualy :)

Overall, great job, I really liked it

I love this spider simulator. In real life I could not care less of spiders, but I was so engaged figuring out how to make an efficient web and keep spider's stomach full.

Beautiful environment art. I love the swaying organic feeling of everything. The web physics and procedural climbing animations were very cool. Well done!

Love the procedural animation and the web physics ! Also the paint art style is super cute.
It did slow a lot with the number of entities on screen tho, so maybe some things could be done to lighten the load.
Very good entry nonetheless ^^

This game is awesome! I love the physics on the webs, it's really cool to interact with and try to keep it stable. The animation on the spider's legs is also incredibly satisfying.

I gave the Arachnophobia mode a go and I found it very funny! I'd hate to have missed the wonderful animations on the spider's legs.

This is a great game! A really nice entry!

Love the graphics of the forest it looks great , and the movements of the spider (especially when climbing on the tree, cause something felt a bit weird when walking along the web), and cool mood !

Wow very original concept, thanks for sharing! I had some issues while navigating the webs, until i understood that it was a bit like a "road" i could navigate left and right on, and not just "follow" the path.
It did feel sometimes a bit difficult, not sure when or why the web would break.

This was really cool! Love the art-style, and I have gained a new found respect for spiders, building a good web sure ain't easy. Really enjoyed this entry :) One thing I think would have been cool, is to be able to shoot a net to save yourself while falling, but maybe it would've been too easy then, idk. Maybe shoot a web, land it on the tree then have to push a button in some sort of correct time to succesfully pull yourself up. Great game :D

@nickhellquist It took a lot of restraint to not add a grappling hook... But if we had more time, it would've been the first thing to play with :)
