Hop hop don't stop. by erebrus

[raw]
made by erebrus for Ludum Dare 56 (JAM)

The hurricane is coming and the little frog has to run away and find a shelter before it comes to the rainforest and catches it! On the way, you have to eat tiny insects, preparing for the harsh weather, as you’re not sure when it’ll be safe to come out of the hiding spot. Other animals are also running away, your predators, and they’re also looking for food to prepare for the difficult living conditions. You must run as far as possible, eat insects, and don’t get eaten!

Theme: You hung tiny creatures, and you are self are tiny when compared to the predator above you.

Controls: - A, D to move - SPACE to jump and double jump - TAB to open the glossary - LMB to aim and use the tongue

This game has some great UI and level design. It's not just a game where you just have to move forward and win. You have to use platforms, swing, jump and hide! This is very cool. I love how it looks too. The art design really made me feel like I was playing a tiny frog. The controls were very responsive and the side effect system was impressive. Great work, fully polished!

Wow! It's actually sad that there are so few comments here because it's really great work! There are a lot of different mechanics (debuffs, rope, etc.), the graphics look nice, even the sounds in the game are good. So it was really cool, you did a good job! I hope that more people notice your game

Frog gang! :frog: This was a really cool! The art and sound design are fantastic, it's a really adorable vibe. I felt like I was fighting a bit with the controls at first, but I think I started getting more used to them towards the end. Buffs and debuffs from the bugs was a great touch, but accidentally eating a snail was the worst  Great job!

Great job with the art, the forest looks alive and the main character is just adorable. I really liked swinging on the tongue!

Also, the tutorial is very well done. The game has some unique mechanics, but they're introduced one by one and it's very easy to grasp.

But the game is a little bit strange in terms of challenge. It's easy to just hop to the next level consuming just a couple insects so hunting down every insect is unnecessary. The only way to die is the bird, but it appears out of nowhere. What I mean, it lacks game-y features like score or death because you failed at platforming.

Still, a very fun, colorful and unique game!

Great player onboarding, simple, to the point, in-game. This is a smart move for GameJams

Love this interaction, I was expecting it as soon as I saw the tongue

The enemy is coherent. Clear UI.
I just would recommend increasing the size of the bugs a bit, since you are not striving for realism.

It's a good game. Very beautiful graphics, good animations and pleasant music. Thanks for the detailed tutorial!
However, sometimes it is unclear to me whether it is possible to jump on a flower leaf or not, sometimes for some reason it does not jump.
I liked the idea of bugs that give different effects.
Overall, I got a good impression of the game. Good job!

Omg Spider-Frog! Swinging around with the frog tongue and then going invisible after eating the right insect was actually a lot of fun and the goofy sound effects immersed me in it a lot along with the beautiful art and scenery!

It was really hard to eat some bugs, but for the ones I could get, it was fun to experiment and find what buff / debuffs they made! I think the slow one was my least favorite - I generally enjoyed the forward momentum I had until getting hit with the ultra slow. Regardless though, a fun game!

I found a bug(ba-dum-tss): you can stay very close to the bugs and spam the tongue to eat the same bug many times. It's not game breaking by any means though. Great job on the game! Movement and feedback feels very satisfying.

I wasn't really sure about how to use the bugs for my advantage, or how they worked. But it was still a fun platformer. I wish that was more explained, though. The art and audio are cute
