Protect the Egg by bvanschooten
NOTE: there's a bug in the sound loader. If the music loads too slowly, it sometimes starts after it should have ended. If this happens, wait until the music plays before starting the game.
Headphones (or high quality speakers) recommended! Android version now available.
You are a space monster trying to hatch an egg, but you are attacked by humans. Protect the egg until it hatches. Use your body as a shield if you must. Eat humans to regain health.
Ramming enemies is major strategy. Note, though, that you can take 4 hits before dying, but you need to eat 8 humans to top up your health again.
If you think the game is too easy, try skipping to the higher levels. The game stops getting more difficult after level 12.
Implemented in WebGL using my homebrew jgame.js engine, and a custom shader for the background. Music made in LMMS.
My goal this time was to create music, because people kept asking for music in previous LDs. After making the soundtracks, I searched for fitting graphics, and came up with the vortex background. That gave me the idea of making the game circular. I spent only the last half day on the actual game.
I guess this entry takes art automation to a new level. All graphics are procedurally generated, except a handful of the sprites--and yes, that player sprite SUCKS, I should have generated that one too.

Again, the graphics are really impressive. It looks to me like some nice shader work in webGL, but unless I dig through your source I can't really know. Great way to get around the programmer art dilemma.
Congrats on the entry!
I think currently it suffers a bit from being too easy. I skipped ahead to a high level and didn't find it much more challenging than the early levels. I think if the player is given the huge freedom of movement that your game currently allows (which I think is cool, as opposed to restricted movement), then there should be a LOT more things to dodge/shoot at. I love that the little dudes who give you health also attack you, but when I play there end up being so many little dudes that I can just pick some dudes up, barrel through their bullets and the other enemies, and then pick more dudes up. I think it would be exciting if my character was more at risk.
I like that the egg is one hit away from death though. That's what the game needs more of -- danger!
Nice backgrounds.
Plus, the soundtrack is awesome. Keep it up!
