Critter Quest!

Mint is a little kitty, truly a tiny creature. And he is on a big adventure. An evil galactic dictator had just sent forces throughout the galaxy to capture ALL of the tiny creatures they could for their tuna mines. Mint escaped just barely, but his family was taken from him before his eyes! He might be the smollest of kitties in his family, but that wont stop him from saving them all!
I had a lot of fun working on this jam, and my boyfriend joined in! He designed all the levels, making sure there were plenty of fun puzzles, while I got everything working. I could not have gotten this finished in time without him!

Unfortunately, my quest ended in the first cave level after getting the throwing ability because some monsters pushed me into a wall, making me permanently stuck. A button to restart/quit a level would've helped in that case.
Overall though, it's a nice little platformer. Good job!
Also, you should be able to hit escape to bring a menu up to restart or go back to the ship. Though this is in the bugfix version... I broke it just before the jam release sadly lol..
I had some issues with jumping as i would frequently get stuck on the sides of block and it made the jumping feel a little less enjoyable.
Overall good job.
Overall I like the simplicity of it, reminds me of the old newgrounds/flash games I would play and would totally play a post jam version! Oh also I like how each boss played differently!
My goal was to add way more kitties and other tiny creatures to find and save as you adventure. I wanted to make sure there was plenty of room. That and room to add more toys if I had time. Alas, not enough time lol.
Thank you very much for trying out my game! I really appreciate it! I'm already working on updates to the jam. I loved this theme, way more than I thought I would at first.
Thank you so very much for trying my game!

My main thoughts on this is that perhaps you could make it feel a bit more active by having the cat's attack be a single attack rather than the ball that persists since I found myself pre-prepping the attacks before I got to things. I definitely think that the edge detection causing the character to stick slightly could be improved, but I think that you could make a mechanic for that later on too (such as parkour jumps or ledge grabs).
I ran into some of these bugs during my playthrough in case they weren't already on your radar:
- I got stuck in enemies often, which sometimes trapped me, and other times it was kind of fun seeing the cat being carried by the bird.
- The boss of World 1 displays its text backwards.
- I also saw one moment where a slime flew off into space.

(don't know if it's a bug or intentional)
So far I think the first boss fight was interesting :)
One issue I have, is that either the sound effects are too loud, or the music is too quiet.

You were brave to do such a big escope. Congratulations on your courage.
But your game is cool with lot of leveldesign and your graphisme are very cut spacialy the attack x)
Cool graphics, very atmospheric!
Perhaps some of this was mentioned above, sorry if I repeat myself:
I got stuck in pixels quite often. But this is normal for jam))
I found that if you hold down the move button, you can catch on a wall, and in some cases even jump over many times. (without passing the first bss).
I think we've already talked about inverted texts.
And yes, I thought I could cheat the system in this way, but I had to think about Mario to get to the finals))
