For platforms I use this as a good reference: https://gmtk.itch.io/platformer-toolkit
Cute game — my favorite bit is the cat sprite though, which sorta makes the first level hard-mode — it's tricky to keep him on-screen without dying :-P.
I noticed an oddity around mid-air collision: it seems like when you come into contact with a wall it zeroes out both components of your motion vector as long as you're holding the x-axis movement key into the obstacle, even if you're midair. It seems like maybe it's setting velocity to zero instead of just velocity.x?
Some of those jumps were pretty tricky to get just right — I also enjoyed the bits of dynamic puzzle with the other rat and the falling trap — with the quick levels and fast retry times it's satisfying to run repeatedly and learn the timing.
Your cat had some super realistic sound fx, I need to add some to mine.
"Yay"
I love that the piano follows the dialogue.
Thank you for making the game forgiving and letting you retry the level on death.
The platforming is a bit rough, but I appreciate the effort in jamming this out :mouse:
God-tier story and I am so glad. I cried, it was beautiful
Honestly the controls/collision detection are a little bit wonky, but the art and level design is impressive in this short amount of time.
Very cool submission.
Like the art, not really the controls! But I played to the end, I wanted to explore the levels. Well done for your first ludum and keep going!
The art was fantastic, the sound design was good, I enjoyed the random traps you could die in but I wasn't too much of a fan of the controls. I was also sad when the game ended so fast, I really wanted more :)
Narrative and story telling were a 10/10, made me cry.
As others have mentioned, better collisions and movement would have been appreciated, but for a jam game it was fine.
Additionally, while the game was short, it was quite enjoyable. A solid entry!
The music fit the atmosphere perfectly. I think it was too easy to get caught on the edges of the objects - we should just slide off those. And in the first level, where there's a falling trap, there should be some shadow or something of the sort to let the player know that something is gonna happen

personally, i found the edge-hanging a bit unpleasant.
Other than that I was a bit disheartened that the sound effects on space weren't played at the end.
Some people will be discouraged to try if they think they have to download it. Also, while in html it should work on every major platform, linux and mac included.
For the game itself, neat platformer, I hope to see you around again next ludum
PS. I was sad that one mouse/rat killed me. Even more deadly than the cat! What did he have against me?
