It Ant Possible is a 2D puzzle game.

The game is inspired by the old puzzle game Lemmings from 1991. New ants spawn every few seconds.

They will automatically start moving forward until they hit an obstacle, where they will turn around.

Ants can die if they fall from a great height or walk into deadly spikes.

Your goal is to get as many ants as possible to the target zone.

You have to give the ants different tasks to create a safe path to the target zone.

How to play

Move the camera with WASD or arrow keys.

Move the mouse over an ant and left-click to select it (the selected ant will be highlighted in green).

Wait for the right moment to give the selected ant one of several available tasks.

You can use keyboard shortcuts (number keys 1-3 on your keyboard) or press the buttons in the top toolbar.

Each ant can only do 1 task and will be tired afterwards.

Choose the right tasks at the right time to create a safe path for your ants to reach the target zone.

Ant Tasks

Building [Key 1]

The ant will start building a bridge. This will create a potential path to another platform.

You can use this to prevent your ants from falling off a cliff.

Digging [Key 2]

The ant will continue to move forward until it comes to an obstacle.

Once it reaches the obstacle, it will start digging a tunnel.

The ants can use this tunnel to get past the obstacle.

Stopping [Key 3]

The ant will immediately stop moving and block other ants from passing.

This will prevent other ants from advancing and give you time to prepare a safe route to the target area.

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • [WASD] or [Arrow Keys] => Move Camera around
  • [Left Mouse] => Select hovered Ant
  • [Right Mouse] or [ESC] => Deselect selected Ant
  • [1] => Build Bridge Task for selected Ant
  • [2] => Dig Tunnel Task for selected Ant
  • [3] => Stop other Ants Task
  • [F] => Focus Camera on the selected Ant once
  • [T] => Track the selected Ant with the Camera (Toggle)
  • [M] => Mute Button, toggle Audio on/off

Personal Notes

Unfortunately, the game is in a rather unfinished state. To be honest, we just ran out of time. We had a lot of minor issues throughout the development process that simply added up over time. And Git's version control in particular has really stressed us out. But that is what game jams are all about, right? Expect some bugs and weird ant behaviour :D

Great environment and mood, had a little troubles at first getting going, think I ran into a few of the bugs... or ants rather. Game has some fun potential! THIS IS GAME JAMS

I love this game genre and I love the pun in you game's title xd I agree that it feels a bit unpolished, but it wasn't that big of a problem for me and I managed to complete all 8 levels. I think it would be useful to list how many ants I'm supposed to save in each level, e.g. my solution in level 8 left me with only 1 ant reaching the exit and I'm not sure if there is a better way I'm supposed to solve this. The wait command is kind of weird, because the ant's walking direction is the same when you remove the command and thus if you use it to block other ants from falling off the cliff, you can't really save it. I think the direction should be reversed on removing this command.

Also, there is a mute button and a shortcut, but there is no audio, right? Or did I miss something?

I enjoyed this game, and it is the first of the jam games I've rated that I've stuck with to the end and managed to complete. I had fun doing so, and felt nostalgic for Lemmings! I think it would be nice to have a time bonus or encouragement to save as many ants as possible. Thanks for the relaxing puzzles!

Nice game. Had a good time figuring out the optimal path through the levels and actually caught myself stressing out over my ants not building bridges fast enough. I like the tileset you used, even if you can scroll past the enclosing walls to expose the game world. Honestly, I thought that was charming in a way.

It would be nice to have an indicator about which drops are survivable and which aren't because I had to guess (wrongly sometimes) where I could drop.

The game had a great old-school Lemmings vibe, and I really enjoyed the puzzle mechanics. One thing I noticed was that sometimes when I stopped an ant, it would get stuck inside the tile. Other than that, I was able to beat the first five levels, but I had some issues with level six. Overall, great job!![Screenshot 2024-10-10 190655.png](///raw/824/3/z/68884.png)

EDIT: I just read the page body, and yea I was right! Lemmings! haha great job!

Game worked fine! I like how the ants move and stick to the ground. And you did a great job on the UI

I think level 6 really feels like a lemmings level, where you have to combine all 3 abilities to reach the goal. Level 8 is a head-scratcher, but I'm glad that I was able to reach the goal with one ant alive after a few tries. Good job!

Nice lemmings clone. I can see why it's not polished yet but at least you got some basics done. And as you said, there are bugs and ants here.

Don't put yourselves down, for such a short time it's an amazing thing you've created! It made me recall all the hours spent playing Lemmings back in the day, you've managed to recreate the feel of the game pretty well here. The sprites for the level parts and the ants are alright, pretty good choice of assets here. The music is rather calm, but it does have a bit of that classic Lemmings cheekiness to it. Mechanically there are some minor bugs, but that's mostly stuff that can be avoided by the player, so it isn't such a big issue. Overall, it's a great jam entry, well done! :D
