Bonjour, mes soldats!

Our great General, Napoleon Bonamouse is mounting his revolutionary forces to defend the great cheese fortress from the invading rat forces. The Rat King, Louis the Cheese Snatcher is willing to sacrifice his forcess into our defenses.

As long as the General can muster new forces to keep the defense alive, we will prevail!

Pour la gloire et l’honneur, en avant, mes braves!

How to play

  • Grab small pieces of cheese by running over them, once you capture a piece of cheese, you can:
    • deliver the cheese to the base in order to heal it or increase it's size
    • find and recruit groups of roaming mice on the map, they will join your base's revolutionary defense when you lure them near your fromage fortress
  • As long as your revolutionary shield is alive, you rats will not be able to steal from your fortress

The theme really kicked our asses, we brainstormed for about 2-3 hours before we started working on the idea, with day one going mostly towards systems and concept art. Btw, the entire idea was cemented by this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deWu8CWiGos

48 hours in, we still didn't have a playable prototype, but we told ourselves we'll have it by mid-day 3. Of course, we had something by mid-day 3, but as with all crunch time, bugs started appearing here and there.

We fell in and out of love with Godot, but eventually, we managed to have the build in the last minutes of the Jam (with some game breaking issues when changing scenes, but we managed to patch those also. We still have some nasty bugs, but hopefully we'll be able to fix them between work calls.

Thanks to everyone in the team who worked their asses off, with an average of about 10 hours of sleep per person during the 72 hours of the jam.

Thank you LD56!

Very nice game. Its a little hard to control but that is the challenge I guess.
Really like the art and audio on this game. The dying by traps was not entirely clear to me what happened in the beginning. Good job!

Very adorable, and a great overally aesthetic. I never "won", but I was getting much better after a while (some more animations: like getting squished in the traps) would make it easier to understand what was happening to begin with... I figured it out eventually!

Also, the cigarettes on the floor made me laugh, you can tell this game was made a bunch of vraiment french guys!

The slippery movement controls really make you feel like a mouse. I was a bit confused by the luring mechanic though.

I love the art and audio.

The game crashed for me a couple of times and had to restart, other than that good job guys.

lol, FRANCHISE is genius, it's really funny. The controls are funny, it feels like I'm playing a racing game.
I haven't quite figured out how to lure the mice, but the rats beat me every time they show up. But the "tornado" of mice is also cool

The art in this entry is insane! Great job!

It took a while to get used to the movement mechanics, but once I got that the gameplay was surprisingly fun. Drifting around, grabbing cheese and gathering my loyal followers!

What I would like to see is more feedback for player actions. Like when the player dies in a trap or triggers the small mice to follow.

Honestly a really beautiful artstyle, and some quite fun idea. My one wish is that the mouse would accelerate slower if the mouse is very close, since quite often I would end up orbiting the cheese because of my speed x)

Wasn't sure what to do at the beginning (ok I havn't read the tutorial here). But finally was able to finish it even after some cheeses were stolen. Art is very good, gameplay too simple but liked the controls, it was fun. Only thing I would say is a better feedback/animation when colliding with a trap.
Nice entry and glad you liked Godot!

As a french person, I can confirm we would start a revolution just for cheese. Seriously though, the theming of the game is simply excellent! And the art, the audio... Everything is so on point. A real gem!

I was blown away. This is definitely a high standard. The graphics, mechanics, and sounds—all of it is top-notch, polished to perfection. I even had a friendly competition with my colleague to see who could last longer and collect all the cheese, but we couldn't manage it until the end. Brilliantly done!

Momentum on the controls make the game a little more challenging than I expected, but I had fun playing it even if I did not manage to win, and the mood and art design are awesome!
As a french person, I could not stay away from this cute cheese-about game, so bravo, bien joué et merci, c'était très amusant !

Thanks guys for your honest reviews and high praise. It's an amazing feeling to receive so much positive feedback. It was an exhausting experience (at least for me), but it definitely worth all the effort and sleepless nights.

@ecaterina you comment is the the best! It really made our day. Thanks for playing our game everyone!

What a unique idea!

I think it may become a bit of a tug of war at a certain point when your speed of getting new cheese / recruiting matches the amount of rats incoming and this may stall for a while, but still, I appreciate both the art and the theme view :)

Pretty original and cool looking game! I like the way we control the mouse. I just wish the cheese was a bit easier to grab 😅 Also, I could not finish the game, the rats were too damn STRONG

Well done ! A few impressions : artstyle is great as well as music, which gives a great sense of urgency. Great take on the theme. The walking animation and sound was oddly satisfying ^^ I couldn't get to complete my fort but still had a good time

Fun, well done ! But I was not sure about how to recruit little mice to save all the little piece of cheese I have accumulated 🤔 (they are recruted at the same time when you bring cheese in your fort ?) And I really had a hard time directing my little Napoleon, as I was quickly outclassed by the big bad rats on my several attempts. Despite that, I had a good time and I really like your design of the fleur-de-lys in cheese hehe
Mikeandtherest
10. Oct 2024 · 22:43 UTC
Thanks for your feedback @tobaccoleopard! After you collect a piece of cheese, you will automatically recruit the little mice if you go near them (not the mice holes in the grounds, but the actual mice). The game is intended to a bit hard, that's true. But I'm grateful that you took the time to try it out and I'm glad that you've even had a good time! Thanks!

Super cute and fun game. Using cheese to for the fort was funny. I ran around trying my best to keep up but I wasn't fast enough. Overall, I felt the game loop is engaging and entertaining.

"Great work! The art style really pulled me in, and the music fits perfectly with the atmosphere. The concept of the ant colony is super fun, but I had a bit of trouble managing all my little workers at once. Despite that, I had a blast playing it! 🐜

Tried several times to outsmart the bigger rats but took a while to get the hang of the recruitment thing (at first I thought the tiny mice were flies!) but the shield/bar at the top helped clarify. The scurrying of the mouse can be tricky, it's not the easiest! Well done!

Interesting game! Graphics are good, music is cool. The controls doesn't really fit the character (why would he slides like that?) tho it does fit the gameplay by making it more interesting to move around. Feedback on bringing back cheese to the forst are really nice, tho it's really lacking on the recruiting part (not sure when/how I recruited them cause no visual cues I could notice). Other than that gameplay works well. Congrats!

The graphics and the audio goes nicely with it. The controls and the gameplay is a little too weird and clunky to me however, I really struggled to understand the mechanic of the wall of mice, because it seemed to not stop all of the rats from stealing the cheese. The hardest part for me was the controls, how I had to do tokyo drifts with Bonamouse to get the cheese. But overall, nice game!

Bon jeu.

I love the music! It's so perfect for what you're doing here!

I wish the gameplay felt so fun. That sliding movement was really strange and unnatural for a mouse. Once the rats start coming, it's just a wall of them and it doesn't really feel like there's a fun way to do anything about it.

It was so slippery with a crazy turn radius for a mouse that it made me orbit around a piece of cheese for a frustrating amount of time!
My mice don't interact with the rats, so I was always under the impression that the defenses were not properly working. Maybe make the rats "attractors" during the "battle".
Otherwise very beautiful game
