i can be ur angle or yuor devil by Anthony Katona

made by Anthony Katona for Ludum Dare 55 (JAM)

Destroy the source of evil with the angel's bell in this browser-based 3D action garbage pile!

Screenshot 2024-04-15 191752.png

Goal:

  • Destroy the devil summoning device in the main room without being touched by a devil

Controls:

  • Move with WASD/mouse

  • Attack with "E" (summons your angel)

Misc. info:

  • Tools included Unity, Blender, and FL Studio (and the bell's texture was the first image result for "ornate" on google)

  • This was my first time doing a few things in Unity like real 3D level design, AI, and a "boss" fight. If I expand on it, I'd like to use a better system for organizing the rooms, rig the devils, make a visual indicator for the bell cooldown, add some a player mobility mechanic, and make the boss fight more difficult

  • BGM: https://soundcloud.com/anthony-phillip-katona/i-can-be-ur-angle-ld55-game-song

[Spoiler] Mechanic insight if you're struggling:

  • The starter room is marked with a small mushroom (the only one in the map). Immediately 180 when spawning to head towards boss room. The boss room is preceded by a stretch of space open to the world on its left

  • Devils spawn every few seconds and can enter the boss room from the door even after its closed for you so be mindful of time

  • Angels summoned on a ~3 s cooldown and they rise twice before disappearing

  • Hit the boss room cylinder with 3 angels to win

  • The devils have poor turn rate so if they get too close to angel-attack, you can (1) walk around them first or (2) throw an angel in the opposite direction and maneuver around it (the latter was the main vision for the strategy of the game but I couldn't implement it well enough to properly compete with just throwing an angel in their face which probably makes the player feel like that's their intended use)

Thanks for playing and feel free to report criticism, bugs, ideas, or praise!

Nice Atmosphere and good first entry. Nice Room design.
I found It difficult to get how the game works (game mechanics are not clear to me)

I liked the devils 3d models and the lbaring. but i think is a little incompleted. Despite that don't be upset, you make a great job<3

Well that was some kind of fever dream  I had fun though!

As you mentioned in the description, an indicator for when the angel is ready would be good, as I would run away spamming the button  Other improvements I would make would be to let you walk through the angel, as I died a couple times because I spawned the angel infront of me and trapped myself! (Although maybe that's just a skill issue on my part)

I loved the music, it's very fitting. But the game seems a bit unfinished, unfortunately. I couldn't get to the boss, because it was hard to navigate the rooms, which are very similar. If the demons are already too close to you, there's not a lot you can do because of the delay for summoning the angel (which then spawns behind the demon and you're f*). I also hit the end of the map at some point, with no walls or floor.

But congrats on the submission!

I feel this is a really cool concept, my biggest note is on the level design. It is a little disorienting and I was never able to find the boss room. It also seems like some of the colliders are not set up and floors are not aligned which I believe you could fix through the rules about bug fixing.

Your game is interesting. It's simple but you can see its essence.

I liked the graphics and the sound. The gameplay of trying to find the ending while creatures chase you is fun.

Good job!

I found the controls a bit hard for my taste, movement specifically, but it may be my problem. Great to make 3D game as entry! Music is great!

Very good atmosphere. I really enjoyed the game.

Some bugs probably
- crossed through some walls maybe twice and somehow
- got into air a room before the boss and it stayed like that to the end, although I could still walk (or levitate now?)

Cool and slightly scary experience!
The fact that you are so much smaller makes these devils appear even scarier!
Before reading your text on mechanic insights I was struggling a bit and I also never thought about not throwing the angels directly at the devils. But in general the idea of spawning angels as your attack is a really cool game mechanic with a lot of potential. I think the game would greatly improve by adding some more features differentiating the rooms (like the mushroom chair) to make navigation easier.
All in all a great little jam game!

Great job on the graphics and audio! I also love the title. 😂 I found the gameplay a bit hard and confusing, but keep practicing your design skills - I think you'll be able to do great things!

Good framework here. Didn't immediately understand the mechanics but eventually I figured it out. Did once accidentally end up on the outside of the map - not exactly sure how that happened - maybe a wall just didn't load properly?

Still, it's a good start. Keep up the good work.
