Summoning Riffs: A Metal Odyssey by ChrisCo

Hi! This is my second Game Jam ever. I’d love to hear what I did well and where I messed up, so please give me some constructive feedback if you can.
Face as many metal music haters as you can, summon the great <insert legendary guitar hero from the past> to help them appreciate the beauty of a guitar solo! 🎸 To summon him or her, you'll need to perform legendary riffs and solos. 🎶
Break a leg!
Game Controls
🎮 Gamepad (Recommended)
- X: Melee Attack
- Y: Shoot (Hold for a legendary riff, when unlocked)
- B: Dodge
- RT: Run
- RT: Shield (when unlocked, it can breaks)
- RB: Summon (then press Y many, many times) — you've got to pull off a legendary solo!
⌨️🖱️ Keyboard and mouse (a little bit awkward, sorry)
- WASD: Move
- Right Click: Melee Attack
- Left Click: Shoot
- Alt: Dodge
- Shift: Run
- Ctrl: Shield
- E: Summon (then press Left Click many, many times)
💡 Recommendation
- Use a controller for the best experience.
- Try to get past the sixth wave to unlock all abilities.
✂️ Credits
- 🎵 Music
- Daniele Gottardo - Paranoid Android (Radiohead)
- Charlie Parra del Riego
- DragonForce - Through the Fire and Flames
🔊 SFX The sound special effects were assembled using pieces from other covers and mixed together using Reaper and Audacity.
🎨 2D Art Sprites were taken from free assets in the Unity Asset Store and others were generated with Stable Diffusion and DALL·E 3 from hand-drawn sketches.
💥 VFX The thing I'm most proud of is the particle effects, along with the movement system. Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of emulating the soul animations from God of War, and I've finally done it!
Thank you for playing my game.

I LOVE the graphics and the soundtrack. Absolutely incredible work there. The gameplay feels tight and fun yet challenging. Definitely plays better with a gamepad, agreed!

A very driving game. At first I thought that a melee attack was useless, but then I discovered spam by dodging and raping the mouse and finished off the counter to 24. A great game for pianists. 11 broken fingers out of 10!

Music is awesome but since it's not yours you should remove it from the ratings. Also gameplay is a bit buggy and kind of annoying to aim where the player is walking.

The game is fun but not being able to aim where you want is a bit annoying. Overall the game is fun! good job

I found the controls a bit inconvenient since you have to move towards your enemies to shoot at them, which makes aiming quite tricky. Also, the balance feels off; it seems like you only have enough resources to summon help when there's one enemy left, which doesn't help much during tougher fights. Maybe tweaking these elements could enhance the gameplay experience? Overall, great effort and a fun game!

The game is really cool and the soul animations are great! The tricky part is aiming but overall a really good game!
