Frogs of the Round Pebble by Rugg

[raw]
made by Rugg for Ludum Dare 55 (JAM)

Hello all,

we joined LD55 because we wanted to actually start and finish a project, like many others here. This is our creation. There's loads more we'd love to fix/add/improve but we're proud with what is packaged here. Please try our submission out, have patience with the loading times and press left click to use the tongue attack. The game is also hosted at (recommended) itch.io link below, together with the option of downloading the executable.

I can now cross "Wandering as a frog" from my bucket list, thanks to you ! However, it's the first time I see a frog that cannot swim ! :)

The environment and music are nice. Platforming level design is decent. I enjoyed exploring the world for a bit. The main issue is with the jump physics. The jump is too quick and gravity feels static. A good jump should slow down as it approaches the peak so the jump can be timed and feel natural. Besides that and the animation polish, this is pretty solid! You should be proud!

I like the idea of this game alot. It reminds me of goat simulator in some aspects (this is not a bad thing, that can be fun!)

I was taken a bit out of the experience by the issues with the camera (it just keeps spinning)

I thought nah I'm not going to awkwardly hop around this giant ass map as this janky frog.
Boy was I wrong. I did indeed hop around the giant ass map as a janky frog and I enjoyed every second of it.

Aside from the awkward animation blending and difficult to control camera, that was a very enjoyable experience and honestly felt more like a complete game than most LD games I've played today. I like how well implemented and unique the summoning challenges were. I kinda want to see more of these frog knights and their frog king so I was a bit disappointed when nothing happened at the end.

Great job putting together such a cohesive experience for ludum dare!

That was really relaxing (well, until I got to the platforming section with the water...)

The concept was simple, but the varied challenges for each frog kept it from becoming repetitive. The simon says flower puzzle was a nice touch :)

Really enjoyed the game, but the frog's movements felt really off. Seemed like he was moving too fast for his animation, his animation didn't really turn, and he jumped before his legs really started to move. He also clipped through the ground a lot, but overall, still a really great game

Frog game is an instant favorite.
Camera is the greatest villain tho, but I think I'm gonna do this one on stream later to heat things up.
I really liked the valley. I will try hard to go out of bounds xDD

Croakingly good!

Getting the camera oriented was a bit of a struggle, but I love how chill this is! I'd like to imagine this is a authentic experience of being a frog.

I liked the idea of playing as a frog. Imho there are some things that could improve the game : The controls that doesn't feel enough frog like. Instead of moving at a stedy speed, it should be more jerky. The jump animation should be cut in two so you play the landing part at the right moment. And finally it would be great to have a lock on mechanic to attack the butterfly, rn it's a bit difficult to aim. Nice little game overall, congrats on finishing the game!
