Good idea but the process of summoning looks more like picking bodies. If the summoning process performs as completing some different targets(like walking an circle) I think that will bring more flavor and atmosphere.
I like the pixel art graphics, especially the style of the skeletons.
I did feel like my summons didn't make much of a dent in the skeleton hoard, so it would be nice if they were made to feel more impactful somehow. Perhaps with different types of minions with different effects and abilities.
Suggestions:
- The most fun part of this game, in my opinion, was becoming invulnerable and then running through the skeleton hoard, killing a lot of them. I think you should lean in to this idea, giving the player a method to fight back against the massive hoard that builds up, in a satisfying way. The gameplay would then alternate between being defensive (running away) and offensive (on the attack)
Overall:
- Good job for implementing a good few game mechanics into this game
- Simplicity of controls were good
- I would like to see the invulnerability somehow, since that seemed to be the best way to kill the skeletons
- It seemed pretty hard to collect the cats, I'd like the pickup range to be increased
- The restore 1 hp boons were disappointing, more so when you got 3 of them to "choose" from
- Did enemies seemed to still spawn during the freeze time? maybe you could let the cats shoot otherwise it feels marginally useful
Some thoughts:
I wish the line to the next summon was an actual arrow, It took a while until I realized what it was.
I wish freeze time woudn't freeze your summons, giving you some time to clear things up.
Overall I wish the upgrades were more powerful and that there were more types of summons.
That said it's a nice ludum dare entry, Well done!
