The game is simple, but those made it enjoyable.
The music is fitting, but it got a bit repetitive due to being such a short loop.
The rendering and visual effects are excellent.
The only criticism I could find is that the transitions are a little slow
My constructive feedback would be to speed up the text (not everyone will want to read our brilliant jokes, sadly) and the resolution was so low I had a hard time reading, even though I played on itch
Overall a pretty solid entry!
- Getting handed a drink and a meal feels like you can use both. Maybe keep the drink on the table from the start and only slide in the meal to not have the drink look like something you can interact with while still keeping the style of the scene. Or (thats probably what you had in mind in the first place) let the player do something with the drink, even if its just a minor thing like tipping it over or something.
- The audio loop needs to be longer or maybe have the speakers have a little button and red light on them to turn it off, it gets slightly distracting after a very short time
- I'd make the (invisible) borders of the text boxes slightly smaller; text leaves the (visible) text box a little before breaking to a new line
- Restarting is kinda weird: You have the big arrow, but the sound indicates theres still text being printed in the background. You cant interact with anything and it really takes a little too long to get control back. I actually thought I had to restart the whole thing before it went back to the game. So I'd either make this skippable somehow or maybe use a loading bar instead: The icon feels very "you can do something here"-ish since its usually used on buttons.
But those little things aside: very, _very_ nice game. Looking forward to your next entry! :)
1. This was on my todo list and I even have a unused code to shake the glass a little if you try to click on it while not playing against Allegedly Cheating Man, but time crunch didn't allow me to add it in time. I want to come back to this game to add final paint of polish, this suggestion will go in!
2. I agree, while testing builds my girlfriend asked for a mute button also, but never go to do that. In future build you will be able to adjust volume with the right speaker!
3. Also was on to do list, make dialogue box expand along with text box size, but forgot how to properly setup a sprite for that and never did it. I'll try to add this also!
4. This is because of some hotfixes I made (disabling input during transitions) and one happens in the background, even if restart screen is selected. will fix (and probably cause other issues :D)
Thanks again!
It is mostly just rock paper scissors so there wasn't too much of a hook after the initial few games - would be interesting to see if there was a way to inject more strategy to it.
I like the vibes and the graphics. A tad slow, and also it disappoints when you conclude that it doesn't seem to be more than rock-paper-scissors. Would have been more palatable if you could get through the game faster.
It was not obvious that the food gives you one HP – if there was any feedback, it was not felt.
Thank you for sharing!
