⚠️ PLAY NOW ON ITCH.IO ⚠️

Gladiatorium throws you straight in the arena, though remember: the tiniest gladiators are often the mightiest.

You will have to help Gladiatorette to manage the arena: draw shapes to spawn gladiators and hype the crowd!

Tips: - Get used to drawing the shapes, certain angles work better - Remember that you can recall gladiators before they die - Use gladiators strength to make the fight last as long as possible and score more hype

A skip button for tutorial would be nice QoL. The game is very simple yet it can get intense when you need to balance hype vs time

This is such a lovely game! It's so relaxing to watch and play, but you still gotta pay attention. The sounds and visuals are just great and the design is fun! One thing I think need adjusting is the size of the area to click on the gladiators. I ended up missing a lot of them because they are tiny.

I like the cute aesthetics and writing style. Interesting concept to spawn them by drawing shapes. I also think a skip button for the tutorial would be good, as I had to watch it again when I wanted to try playing again.

Really enjoyed this. For some reason on my linux firefox 120.0 64-bit I couldn't see anything in area, largely black screen except hype, hearts, 4x characters with spawn patterns, and the summon timer. I was very confused - was able to spawn stuff, saw hype going up, but didn't see the units. After a few rounds of this switched to chromium and then all made sense.

I love the uniqueness of the spawn mechanic, using gestures to spawn different gladiators. Cute graphics, love the music that starts playing when the crowd gets hyped up. Great overall design, and a very nice submission. As other have mentioned, a tutorial skip button and improving recall hitboxes would make it perfect. Very very intense too hahah

Oh, snap! How did you guys pull off this level of awesomeness? It's so mind-blowing, I'm genuinely flabbergasted. Did you seriously whip this up in just 72 hours??? Your game mechanics are super polished, like, 'hold my controller while I master this addiction' level of good. This game is so fire, I can't get enough of it. Kudos on the epic win, I'm totally digging it!

This game has an incredible vibe, the art and music and sound design were incredible. only thing i would say is maybe make the shapes a bit easier to get because at times i would make the shape and then it just, wouldnt work at all

Amazing work! Great artwork, awesome sounds, and interesting mechanics! My biggest issue was that you can get deadlocked pretty easily at the start. It seems you need to summon exactly a triangle and a circle at the beggining before the time expires, otherwise you're stuck without hype (or did I missed something?). Beause there was no feedback on trying to summon something without the necessary hype, it took me a while to understand that I needed hype and I wasn't actually missing the shapes.

Anyway, super congrats on submission!

Game looks really polished. Graphics, music and effects fit and the gameplay is pretty interesting. Also the animations are very smooth and fun to look at.

The game soft-locks if you do nothing tho, I was stuck a bit at first because I didn't realize that

Beautiful graphics, amazing soundtrack and a great little game overall! I had so much fun!
A next step would maybe to add target hype numbers to reach to get a win-state that isn't also a failstate!
Then you could have progressive arenas that require more and more hype to please and also unlock additional (even more showy) gladiators! Haha just my mind spinning off on features which I think is a mark of a really good game-concept. (And I know! - not feasible within the JAM scope) ;)
With the scope in mind this is an amazing achievement! Great job!! 5 stars!

I'm going to wait to write down, because unfortunately, I spent 2/3 minutes trying the shapes (circle and triangle) without success...

Adorable! The creatures are just too cute, the design for the four different gladiators is spot-on.
Loved the sound effects, especially with the dialogues.
Drawing those shapes feels very satisfying, though I did struggle a bit with the triangle. Other than that, fantastic job!

One thing I really enjoyed was strategizing which gladiators to pit against each other based on their skills. Adds a nice layer of strategy to the game.

Overall, great work! I enjoyed it!

Having a restart button or something similar would be nice as I did get softlocked at the beginning when my triangle drawing got registered as a circle.

inspiring entry, the art and music are amazing

the draw detection felt surprisingly good! it almost always summoned the enemy I wanted, the only problems I had were:
- Triangles would not be recognized, or would be recognized as another shape
- The star felt a bit too easy to draw, I could semi-consistently use it by just drawing a generally spiky random blob
LDJam user 43351
16. Apr 2024 · 20:09 UTC
@pierre-cilluffo @marineplb @mathieuspooky @7uc4s Drawings not being recognized is now fixed in the itch.io version!! Also fixed softlocking issue. It should run a lot smoother now hopefully. Let me know if it works!

It took me a couple hours to find the reason for the bug. But due to how some browsers read strings or numbers or something the XML parser for the shape training data was causing bugs with float.Parse. So had to add some parameters to that call… WHAT A NIGHTMARE!

Excellent graphics, great music/sfx, and interesting game play though it can get pretty hectic to keep up with all the summoned guys and while getting maximum hype. It would be cool to divide it up into rounds and use any leftover hype to buy more summons and other spells such as healing, etc.

The best submission hands down, amazing graphics and I loved the unique gameplay idea. Drawing shapes was a really great way to make the game interactive and moving whilst being a fixed setting. That is a really well made game! Love the crowd animations, the music and 4 unique AI behaviors with animated models. Pretty impressive.

Was able to find an easy tactic where you spawn triangles in a really small area which allows you to have everything under control. Got 6000+ points with that.

I really enjoyed this! The creature designs are adorable and charming! The whole game looks very pleasing with the soft color palette and the music and sound design adds a lot of personality too!

The game is simple but really solid and intuitive. It can get pretty intense at moments trying to manage everything but that was part of the fun for me!
I got about 1200 points on one try

Some of the jokes got a chuckle out of me too

excellent entry! good job on this!

What a fun and well-polished game! Everything is well-crafted—the graphics, music, and gameplay are all top-notch, and it's incredibly original and true to the theme! The fact that it keeps the 'hype' going really excites me and keeps me on edge. I'm also curious to find out the best strategy. I'm not sure if triangles or rays are better; I'm torn between those two, ha, ha, or maybe I'm mistaken. It would be cool if each unit had its own name; they're adorable (rather than just calling them triangles, circles, etc.). Truly a fantastic game!

The art style is charming, and the music is delightful. The animations look great, and add a ton of character to the gladiators. Drawing feels very nice and fluid. only clicking is a bit finicky, since the game assumes your panicked mouse motion to get a someone out, is a drawing input. Overall very polished and cozy experience. Thank you for making it!

I scored 1085, but I'm still a gladianoob... :p

Graphics are really sharp and I love the music (it reminds me a bit of Nitrome music, or maybe the Steven Universe instrumental soundtrack?) I like the variation in combat styles of the different gladiators. It's really cute and polished. I think my only nitpick is that I would've liked to feel like there was more 'escalation' going on over time -- I think the meter at the bottom got faster over time, but the penalty for running out on that didn't seem too harsh and it was pretty easy to just scribble something to satisfy it, so I think it might've been nice to have a different way of increasing the difficulty over time as well. Other than that though this is a really excellent entry, well done!

This is such a neat entry! I've had it bookmarked for a few days because I got curious about the art and now that I finalyl got to play it I'm really glad I did. The audio is super clean, the unlit art style works so well and I love the design of the gladiators. The gameplay is a lot of fun too, easy to get but hard to master. Congratulations to the team!

The core gameplay loop is so much fun! When the music started to get more frantic, I assumed you guys had a timer put in place so it was like a time-attack rack up the score as fast as you can, but was a little disappointed to see that it was endless-- Normally I'd be really happy with an endless mode, but I think a time-attack would have served this gameplay loop better!
Regardless, I'm tossing you 5 stars all the way

It feels really good to play! The graphics are great, sound is amazing, it's very polished.

The game loop is a weird one. It is a great idea, especially for the theme. Now, it kinds of doesn't work well for me in its current state tho, since it seems much easier and more effective to summon a few cheap ones at a time. I think the issue being that the game discourage you from spawning many gladiators (timer not really getting faster, and it costs points to spawn), when it should actually reward you for spawning more of them (because it's more risky). At least that how I felt with a few tries.

Either way, it's overall an amazing submission. Congrats!

Hi there,

A nice little entry, which is working really great from the game cycle point of view. Both limitations (that you have to summon gladiators to continue & you have to recall them before dying) working absolutely beautifully to keep player engaged and not wasting time.

A little problem is that the rules might be not that trivial to get from the first glance / reading tutorial. But to me they were fairly obvious and I got the idea quite quickly.

Also I should additionally say that the art is really nice and OST makes things even better. I really do like the style!

Honestly a super well rounded entry !
The gameplay is giving both stress and relaxation, having to save those little guys from death and just watching them waddle feels great.
The art and music totally enhance everything. And the :sparkles:PUNS:sparkles: Wow. Love it

Also wondering how the shape-recognition works behind the scene :eyes:
