gladiatorium by Jejkobb

⚠️ PLAY NOW ON ITCH.IO ⚠️
Gladiatorium throws you straight in the arena, though remember: the tiniest gladiators are often the mightiest.
You will have to help Gladiatorette to manage the arena: draw shapes to spawn gladiators and hype the crowd!
Tips: - Get used to drawing the shapes, certain angles work better - Remember that you can recall gladiators before they die - Use gladiators strength to make the fight last as long as possible and score more hype

The gameplay is very fun and I like the overall aesthetics. Good job!
Very cool, pretty looking, nice sounding and overall just fun game ^^
Anyway, super congrats on submission!
The game soft-locks if you do nothing tho, I was stuck a bit at first because I didn't realize that
A next step would maybe to add target hype numbers to reach to get a win-state that isn't also a failstate!
Then you could have progressive arenas that require more and more hype to please and also unlock additional (even more showy) gladiators! Haha just my mind spinning off on features which I think is a mark of a really good game-concept. (And I know! - not feasible within the JAM scope) ;)
With the scope in mind this is an amazing achievement! Great job!! 5 stars!

Loved the sound effects, especially with the dialogues.
Drawing those shapes feels very satisfying, though I did struggle a bit with the triangle. Other than that, fantastic job!
One thing I really enjoyed was strategizing which gladiators to pit against each other based on their skills. Adds a nice layer of strategy to the game.
Overall, great work! I enjoyed it!
Having a restart button or something similar would be nice as I did get softlocked at the beginning when my triangle drawing got registered as a circle.
But the third summon sadly didnt work for me. WOuld have loved to try it, because the rolley ones were so fun to watch :D
**very** good submission!
the draw detection felt surprisingly good! it almost always summoned the enemy I wanted, the only problems I had were:
- Triangles would not be recognized, or would be recognized as another shape
- The star felt a bit too easy to draw, I could semi-consistently use it by just drawing a generally spiky random blob
It took me a couple hours to find the reason for the bug. But due to how some browsers read strings or numbers or something the XML parser for the shape training data was causing bugs with float.Parse. So had to add some parameters to that call… WHAT A NIGHTMARE!
It becomes very addictive at one point, I love it
I really enjoyed this! The presention and music is great, I lvoe the polygonal graphics. The game can last for quite a long time though.. Also I thought I did well but I was still called a noob :(

The game gives a polished experience and is very enjoyable. Perfect game to grind some highscore ^^
Very well done to the team and congratulations for your entry
Was able to find an easy tactic where you spawn triangles in a really small area which allows you to have everything under control. Got 6000+ points with that.
Here is my attempt:

The game is simple but really solid and intuitive. It can get pretty intense at moments trying to manage everything but that was part of the fun for me!
I got about 1200 points on one try
Some of the jokes got a chuckle out of me too
excellent entry! good job on this!
Graphics are really sharp and I love the music (it reminds me a bit of Nitrome music, or maybe the Steven Universe instrumental soundtrack?) I like the variation in combat styles of the different gladiators. It's really cute and polished. I think my only nitpick is that I would've liked to feel like there was more 'escalation' going on over time -- I think the meter at the bottom got faster over time, but the penalty for running out on that didn't seem too harsh and it was pretty easy to just scribble something to satisfy it, so I think it might've been nice to have a different way of increasing the difficulty over time as well. Other than that though this is a really excellent entry, well done!
Regardless, I'm tossing you 5 stars all the way
The game loop is a weird one. It is a great idea, especially for the theme. Now, it kinds of doesn't work well for me in its current state tho, since it seems much easier and more effective to summon a few cheap ones at a time. I think the issue being that the game discourage you from spawning many gladiators (timer not really getting faster, and it costs points to spawn), when it should actually reward you for spawning more of them (because it's more risky). At least that how I felt with a few tries.
Either way, it's overall an amazing submission. Congrats!
A nice little entry, which is working really great from the game cycle point of view. Both limitations (that you have to summon gladiators to continue & you have to recall them before dying) working absolutely beautifully to keep player engaged and not wasting time.
A little problem is that the rules might be not that trivial to get from the first glance / reading tutorial. But to me they were fairly obvious and I got the idea quite quickly.
Also I should additionally say that the art is really nice and OST makes things even better. I really do like the style!
The gameplay is giving both stress and relaxation, having to save those little guys from death and just watching them waddle feels great.
The art and music totally enhance everything. And the :sparkles:PUNS:sparkles: Wow. Love it
Also wondering how the shape-recognition works behind the scene :eyes:
What would have been great would be some sort of stages/level you have to pass to unlock/modify gladiators. But hey, that's a jam and this game is already realy great ;) !
