Introduction

This is a top-down, casual, incremental game.

You play as Matthew, the Emissary of Balance, who wields power in both the realms of Nature and Death. You can gather nature energy from trees and death energy from deceased entities. These energies enable you to summon powerful allies to fight alongside you.

A dire threat looms over the Continent of Aendora in the Prime Material Plane—creatures from the Void plane are poised to attack. As a wizard from Rollingstone City, it is your duty to harness your abilities and protect your world from these void creatures.

PS: The game is inspired by an interesting Chinese web novel "The necromancer just wants to plant trees" (in Chinese 《死灵法师只想种树》) https://www.qidian.com/book/1036939820/catalog/.

Well that got out of hand. I, uh, may have overdone it a bit with the tree planting. The framerate was virtually nonexistent. I had fun with this though, it's cool to keep growing the economy (literally in this case) and spawn so many creatures that you have this cloud of destruction cleaning up anything that wanders on-screen. Nice work :)

Very nice little game! The resources seemed to cap at 260, though, so I couldn't summon a dragon.

Very satisfying core game loop!

Super satisfying game loop and art that serves it really well! Concept of balance is super unique and I had a great time with the game. Nice work!

I liked the game loop, however the game gets exponentially more crowded and easier as you plant trees.
They basically break the balance, as you can just go around the kingdom and mash the plant tree button indefinitely.
The game needs to limit the amount of instances considerably. Maybe have different levels of leaves and bones for different values, so instead of picking 100 leaves you pick 1 leaf lvl 2. It's good to cap the summon amount as well for more sustainable gameplay progression that doesn't go out of hand.

Very enjoyable! Clicking to select only seems to work 1 out of 2-3 tries, which made it a bit confusing in the beginning, but once I figured out what's going on, it played very smoothly. The yin-yang leaf and bone resource system and the symmetrical armies they fuel works really well too.

This is really fun. I played it a lot longer than I intended to. I feel like it does the theme justice. I only wish I didn't have to press space so much.

Brilliant sense of progression in this. Loved that there seem to be quite a few interconnected systems / resource balances to manage but it's all straightforward to understand what you need to do to use those systems.

Really enjoyed playing this!

the mechanics are good, it lacks a little visual feedback to motivate the player for a better gaming experience!
But everything else is good, the balance is perfect, it's been a pleasure to play, can't wait to see how it evolves, keep up the good work!

Really nice to play! Good balancing (although I didn't get too far) and mechanics. I liked the grass planting and collection. Art is lovely too.

I like the concept a lot, it works pretty well. I wish I didn't have to use the mouse, but of course there's just never enough time to wire up gamepad support. Cute sprites!

Nice art and gameplay! Kinda weird that you first select with the mouse and than spawn with space. I think just clicking with your mouse would make more sense. Also enemies can get knockbacked into your base and you lose health really quickly. Still very satisfying to play.

Insanely fun! I love the idea of two resource pools that work slightly different and that you have to manage simultaneously. With a little polishing and balancing I could really see this becoming something great :)

Hello I've just tested your game and I love it: it's verry fun and satisfying. I just would have add a dash ability to the player in order to collect more quickly the ressources.

I love the game. The only issue is that itch.io is not capable of handling so many objects on screen. Game 1, itch.io 0.

really like the game, my main issues is that it get kidna annoying that the summosn follow you, so when you are out recollecting bones, your castle is defensless, so you need to try to fish for the perfect time to collect bones.
super fun and replayable, I played it a lot trying to do better.

Really enjoyable game, dind't get to Dragon yet as my framerate dropped like the Titanic. Well done!

I really liked that the necromancer also plants the trees. I didn't known such Chinese story, so it feels fresh to me. The gameplay is fun, but I didn't notice how I lost the game. I'd thought I was winning. Nevermind, great entry!

Nice game, like the concept! I like there's a variety of units, and two pools of resources (nice yin-yang orb by the way :D) I also like the resource management aspect of it. Found the art and sound fitting. Extended options menus - you can even rebind controls!

I was focusing on fast units at first. But that easily left me vulnerable when a monster appeared on one side and everyone rushed there, and another one came from the other side and reached the castle. Then I tried focusing on slow units and spreading them around the castle. Eventually they also converged on one side, leaving me vulnerable on the other. Maybe some of the units should remember where they were spawned and try to stay in that area? Or perhaps don't make everyone rush over for a single enemy. Or maybe have the defenders have an aggro range so they don't rush from one end to the other, and make them return to the castle when idle.

It might be a bit harder to defend the top and bottom as there's less screen space there :D

Finally, at times it was hard to distinguish my dude among all the other units. I'd make it a bit more visible (or add some outline / highlight). At times the enemies were a bit hard to spot too.

Hi @tokarts, summon WoodElf and Ghost will increase the max size of the energy pool, then you will be able to accumulate more energy for stronger characters.

I love this genre of games where you spawn monsters until your game freezes))
The game is great, the only thing is that the Web version of the game does not work quite correctly, the character cannot move(![Снимок экрана 2024-04-18 155547.png](///raw/6ae/65/z/6450e.png)

Perfectly simple, 2 different "mana" pools is a great and well implemented idea and the innovations don't feel forced:-)

Nice! I had fun defending my castle against the waves. The music really works with your concept. I kept running into a problem where I couldn't pick up more tree leaves - sometimes even at the beginning of the level when I had 0! Bones always seemed to work. It also seemed weird that I could plant trees on top of each other, and it'd be nice to be able to select units with the keyboard so I wouldn't need the mouse.

(Edit: I played a few more times and it seems like there is some progression in the maximum I can pick up, so maybe that's an element of the game - of course not being able to pick up any at the beginning seems like a bug.)

Very fun, addicting even. I was really invested in trying to save up for the dragon and it felt good to get it. The difficulty scales well with your resources making the core game loop continually satisfying.

I could get lost in this game for a long time, too bad there is so little explanation at the start because the controls are very difficult to learn. so if you continue I hope that you will give a tutorial

I wasn't getting the limit for the pools at first - I noticed that sometimes it would go up but didn't understand why.
When I discovered that summoning Ghost and Wood Elf did this (by reading the comments here) I was pretty embarassed for not reading the tooltips xD

After learning that, I managed to summon *the Dragon,* I'm happy now >:D
