Ritual Realm by mhorth

[raw]
made by mhorth for Ludum Dare 55 (JAM)

Intro

You can feel a mystical pull from another realm. Demons are being summoned. In order to stop them, you must overcome the forces that are hell bent on keeping you in your prison.

Controls

  • WASD to move
  • Mouse to aim
  • Left click (and hold) to activate abilities
  • Shift to sprint
  • 1, 2, 3, 4 to select abilities or mouse scroll wheel

Helpful hints

  • Completing rituals will unlock new abilities for you to use.
  • You don't need to complete them all. Once you're ready for the hard ritual (in the center), you can win.

The little mini games are fun. It has a nice progression. Graphics are cute, obviously some animations would have been nice. Congrats!

Love the many little rituals to gain new abilities! The "sphere" effect on the main level is very impressive!
I'm terrible at the game and was struggling with more difficult rituals. I'll try again later to beat them all! :D

Really enjoyed it, got some PS1/N64 vibes without loading screens. Could use some SFX to make the spell hits more impactful. I had a lot of fun. Will come back to try and beat all minigames soon!

Great game, had a lot of fun. It was a bit annoying that sometimes I clicked on the spells and changed the current spell when aiming downards, perhaps it would be fine to not have the spells clickable by mouse.

I wish there were more quests than tree, but overally the game is pretty cool.

I had a lot of fun with this, it felt like a series of minigames that were all pretty enjoyable. I definitely got a little annoyed when the enemies kept punch the orbs out of the circle in the hard ritual, but the difficulty increase fits well. I found switching spells to be a little hard, my fingers kept getting confused moving up to 1/2/3/4 and the scroll wheel felt too sensitive.

Art and music are both simple but work. I think if you wanted to expand this, you could add more spells or ritual types. Nice job on the game!

Awesome abilities to play around with. I really like strategizing with the rock wall. The structure of the minigames were difficult but enough so that I was committed to beating them (especially the capture point and avoid the storm ones).

Might have been out of the scope, but I wish the push ability did a pool cue effect; if you hit one entity into another, the force from the push gets transferred to the second entity. Could make some situations more strategic.

Overall, I enjoyed the progression and fight up to the final level. Excellent job!

I liked the game, so much tension whenthe gorillas came to steal your orb and push is far away, but after 17 minutes I managed to beat it, very fun, after a while a discovered a meta-attack that i would put the gorillas inside wall stones then throw a 4 attack and then push with the wind to the orb
nice entry!!

Pretty neat concept not having any actual damage/health going on. Starting out with zero abilities was actually kinda frustrating because I just walked to the first visible portal(medium) and it was impossible. The way enemies could group up was sometimes really frustrating as well. Really neat idea though and impressive that you did this in 3d even without complex animations.

The mechanics were very basic. Despite this the game was very fun. Some of the levels were pretty difficult, but all of them were doable (I completed all of them). Also, the high-score submission was a nice touch at the end.

I like how much you got out of your few enemies and skills. Nice and challenging gameplay towards the end. I also dig the music. The "stay in the circle" objective could be rephrased, since you can complete the objective another way as well.

Good work.

Great job, looks really good. I found something about the controls a little hard to get used to but otherwise, a lot of fun.

I like the game but it is really too hard! I can not pass even the second level.
