The Summoning by Jhonny111

[raw]
made by Jhonny111 for Ludum Dare 55 (JAM)

This is a game made for Ludum Dare 55. The goal is to fend of the waves of enemies and defend your alter while mining gold to buy upgrades. Controls can be found in the help section of the main menu. Enemies spawn in the direction that is right when the game starts, opposite of the mine. When there is a timer there are no enemies. As long as it says Wave x there are enemies on the map. This is my second game jam and i hope you like it. You can play it here directly (but that only works in fullscreen because i made the default resolution too big) or on itch.io.

Forgive me for the silly comparison, but your game looks like one of those funny mobile game ads. However, unlike them, your game seems to be at a decent level of playability. Good job!

Very fun game. One of the funnest LDjam entries i've played. Only criticism was it felt a bit hard. Great job

Really nice game! Would like to have some audio feedback on mining and some notification when wave is started

But it is a really solid game! Have a nice Jam!

Definitely pretty hard. Also when mining I thought you could only get gold from the blocks with gold on top, but that's not the case, right? You can also get gold form the red ones?

You guys are killing it, my friends, the level of completion is seriously impressive.

@potatofinch about half the gold is hidden. In the help it says "some"

I like the core gameplay loop, the switching between digging and fighting. Well done.

Nice! This has a very dome-keeper'y feel to it, in the best way possible! Solid use of theme as well!

I really like how difficult the game is as well.

Good balancing, and the whole push/pull element of trying to rush out to mine, and frantically running back to your base to defend is great!

it was a very interesting idea, I liked it, but at some point my life began to be taken away just like that

Interesting gameplay loop, though the timer went to zero and I died with a lot of health? In any case, well done on the submission and the difficulty kept me on my toes

@kseniya @laurawilkinson the Altar has an extra healthbar on the top. Maybe thats why you died randomly. The feedback for that is not that good. Not your feedback. The in game feedback for damage

Great concept! I saw a streamer playing this and wanted to try. It's definitely really difficult! Once I figured out the upgrades, it mostly became a race between digging deeper for gold and rushing back to meet the wave. It doesn't pause when you're looking at upgrades, so I would get the last Knight enemy down to one hit, then go back and upgrade, and let him get close so I wouldn't have to run as far to mine. It took me a couple tries but I managed to beat it on wave 18.

Very interesting concept of mining and protecting the altar. There is also a vast upgrade system. The core loop is fully functional, but needs more polishing because there is little time for running from enemies to mining and back again and progress feels slow. I also think if you added some music and sounds it would be better. Overall, good game!

A promising concept with a decent foundation lacking in execution and polish. There are quite a lot of systems going on which is a nice accomplishment for a solo entry. In terms of visuals I feel that the characters could have looked better with smooth shading instead of being flat shaded. UI is quite generic looking, but gets the job done. Lack of audio is unfortunate, as it could have juiced up the game considerably. For a solo entry made in a weekend I think the game turned out quite fine tho. Good job, keep it up!
