Armamancer - Never Reload by coffeemakingtoaster

[raw]
made by coffeemakingtoaster for Ludum Dare 55 (JAM)

In Armamancer - He doesn't know how to reload, you play a mage who never bothered to buy additional ammunition, instead relying on his ability to summon forth weapons from his great arsenal. To show the superiority of your summoning magic, you challenge the greatest of the mages, the archmage alfonso. But beware, rumors say that alfonso has been hitting the gym more than usual lately.

Tutorial In the main Menu you can find a tutorial Screen explaining all the basic Controls. If the game does prove to be a bit too challenging, we apologise. Sometimes there is not enough time for roper balancing. However there is an assist mode that you can activate in the settings menu.

If the mouse sensitivity is too high, you can change it in the settings menu

The wide variety of weapons was great. Loved the banana, or the holy hand grenade. I had trouble staying away from Alfonso. Great fun dodging and swapping weapons. Would love to see some more impact effects.

@fataljg Thanks for the feedback^^
In settings you can change the mouse sensitivity if you want to give it another try?
But thank you so much for playing our game!

It's pretty fun game! Interesting, that besides the holy granade in the magic world AK-47 still is the best weapon=)

I liked the humor (BANANAAAAAA), but damn, it's hard! XD

A little too much sound design in my opinion. Except the “BANANA” it is excellent!
The graphics are great, just a little cluttered in my opinion

@zanar Yeah...we kind of have the tendency to make our games a bit harder :D The assist mode in the settings could probably help you.

Wow, it s great, but only not clearly understand if i shoot or not, maybe add one animation would be perffect. But game is fun, i like it.

@anaastaska There are shooting animations, sounds and particle effects for every weapon. Were you able to damage the boss? Which version did you play?

@heuser I played version on itch and when I shoot to the boss, I didn’t have any sound or something to understand, that I shooted to him👀

@anaastaska Thats interesting, maybe its a browser thing. ![Animation.gif](///raw/c46/15/z/64089.gif)

This is how shooting should look like :)

thanks for making the game accessible on every platform. Pretty hard to play for me, but very funny (especially the sounds) :)

@deborah-messaoudene Yeah we know its hard xD If you wanna give it another shot, you can try it with the assist mode. You can enable it in settings, but you have to do so in the main menu, otherwise it only kinda works. It makes the bosses a little bit less punishing and gives you more health flasks.:)

Fat mage with tons of guns is really funny, and I laughed when I saw Alfonso too :D

I liked the feedback on many of the guns and the large amount of weapons added a lot of variety to the game. Great usage of the camera in the cutscenes as well :)

Alfonso wrecked me haha, really well done!

Fun game! Love the wizard cards in the stands. If I could specifically summon health potions instead of them randomly appearing that'd be great.

Bunny hopping works really well in this game, and its really fun to see alfonso beeline for you matching pace, 10/10

@unfrog they do get slotted in as your next weapon once you fall below half health. But i get the urge to "summon" them yourself. We tried to keep the necessary keys to a minimum, which is why we opted for this solution.

LOL I loved the holy granade. Very fun game, congrats! (I'd suggest to set the mouse sensitivity lower by default)

Ridiculous game, I had fun!
I needed to turn mouse sensitivity virtually all the way down so I'm glad you added that option. The voice lines were great fun and I'm impressed you fit in the cinematics.
The dash felt very abrupt and doesn't feel like it helps much, maybe just with dodging. It felt unnessary that I should have to click the fire button to summon the next thing after using up the previous item.

@maimai thanks a lot for the feedback, you are definitely right with the mouse sens, I think I am alone in wanting to move my mouse only by milimeters when aiming xD Yeah the summon thing is very fair and we are very aware of that, there is no reason to have the player click again, thats just how we first implemented it. The dash however can definitely help you gain momentum when you use it in the air and then combine it with slide or bunny hopping. But when using it on the ground it really just is a dodge tool. :)

fun game, i really liked having to adapt to the different weapons on the fly, and there was a pretty impressive variety of them

a couple things I noticed:
- as far as I can tell, you can only pause with ESC. this is hard to do for people on webgl, since it will also unfullscreen. I usually also add TAB as a valid pause button for my LD games
- the UI seems to be too small on my 1440p monitor

This is a really fun game! I really liked the use of the theme, the random weapons kept combat feeling good. I liked all of the references and just good humor. 😂 Well done.

I think for feedback, it was tough for me to avoid certain attacks because there wasn't a lot of time. Specifically Fireball, which always felt instant to me.

Super fun game regardless

@saryah Thanks for playing the game on stream! And thanks for the feedback.
@bobbie Yeah great feedback. I actually also have a 1440p monitor but it was very late when we added the main menu background so I guess the 1-2 times I saw it before submission I just ignored it xD
And yeah pause on ESC is an obvious flaw if you think about it... which we didnt... So really thanks a lot for the feedback^^

@le-knallfrosch Yeah @coffeemakingtoaster took almost a full day to record all the voicelines this time, which was a great investment xD

@questionmarc Thanks for the kind words. Yeah slower projectiles would have made it that dodging was more skill reliant and felt less random. Great Feedback.

Nice jam game! Back to back arena boss fights with random weapon summons. The weapons cracked me up, good job with the humour. The weapon sounds didn't have much bite to them, but maybe that was an artistic choice ha. I had to really adjust mouse sensitivity to be able to play it; the default was super high. The graphics were solid, enjoyed the cardboard wizards in the crowd!

I like the idea, quite well featured. I kept getting stuck when walking back into pillars, the sensitivity is extreme even when turned down. Couldn't seem to return to the menu to turn it down further.

I really liked the graphics, it has a sinister feeling with the cardboard cutout audience.
