Bottle Royale by Nales

Bottle Royale

In this game, you are an insect stuck in a bottle with other insects. Everyone can dash to the bottle and making it crush other insects.

Controls

  • Arrow keys to move.
  • X to dash. The more you charge your dash before releasing it, the further you go.

About the development

I used PixiJS.

This is my first time doing the Ludum Dare. This is also the first time I publish a game. (And this was also my first time using PixiJS. Not the best idea to discover a library while doing a competition.)

I really enjoy making this small game and I think I will continue to work on it to make a real video game. In the meanwhile, I will be already happy if you have fun with this version for at least 10 seconds!

That's a neat concept. I had a minute or two where I didn't fully grasp the gameplay. I think I was tapping X instead of holding it. After that, I made it a while into the game. I think one thing that might improve the gameplay is if there was some way of knowing that one of the NPC bugs was about to charge. I tended to find myself pre-emptively charging to squash other bugs before they could charge, I think if there was some telegraphing of other bugs' moves it would add another option of avoiding the jar after the charge.

@rcxa, thank you for playing my game and your feedback! I wanted to implement a UI and audio clues to know the charge of the dash but I did not manage to implement that on time. For the other bugs charging, same thing: I would like to have an animation when they are about to dash and a visual clue to where they will dash.

And yeah, the game is still full of bugs (no puns intended).

Very interesting concept. Very quick to learn but difficult to master. Congratulations on your first LudumDare

Nice concept, not something that I would have thought of. I think there's an issue with the hitboxes, or else I was just not understanding something. A bit of text on the home screen to say how to start the game would have been nice, though I did end up figuring it out. Nice job on your first Ludum Dare!

Nicely done! Liked the spritework, and the concept was great! Would advise allowing WASD on browser games aswell, as arrowkeys made my browser scroll up and down. Hope you enjoyed ludum dare! For now that you've started, you can never leave!!! Muhahahahaha!

Neat concept but couldn't get passed the first like 2-3 moves too hard :( But still really fun. Keep up the good work! Congratulations!

Interesting Concept and pretty fun. Could definitely use some indicators for when other bugs are about to charge, but not having Time for stuff like that is in the Nature of a Game Jam after all. Congrats on your first LudumDare Entry.

That game has a learning curve, wow! Still, love the concept. Simple yet elegant, perfectly fitting within the theme.
