To the Starfield: a not-open-world rpg by Xlores Liang

[raw]
made by Xlores Liang for Ludum Dare 54 (COMPO)

Brief summary:

You are an astronaut who are going to explore the starfield. But you’re trapped at the start point of your journey by the fatal bug of the game's loading scene:

In this game, every "loading" will throw you into the classic cart of Skyrimroll ("You're finally awake"), in which you’ll be sent to the execution yard of Skyrim and that* is a GAME OVER*.

序列 02_2.gif `

Sometimes passing a skill check may lead to a deadly loading scene, while sometimes failing means game over! Fortunately, there is a way to manipulate your dices!

You can find Dev Logs written by "Polly". Those messages recorded "bugs" of this game, which you need to utilize to avoid the fatal loading scenes. As well, the messages are uncovering the sad story behind this facetious parody.

`

About the theme:

Your space of activities is limited, since every time you try to leave the space, the loading scene meme will kill the game.

The promised SPACE exploration is limited, since the game ought to be a great open-world space journey, while the absurd loading scenes stopped that from happening.

`

Hints:

If you find the skyrimrolls are too unbearable wo watch again and again, try pressing Backspace button in the cutscene.

It takes 12 steps to reach the true ending.

The ending is about the self-torturing of an incompetent “artist”.

  1. Abuse every recorded bugs on "Dev Logs".

  2. Always keep the [Dev Log #02] in mind, which can be found in the beginning room.

  3. Schedule ALL the skill checks to make everything goes perfectly.

  4. Some dice rollings are meaningless, such as the mushroom, the painting and the amulet. You can spare your unwanted dices on those meaningless checks.

If you really don’t like the trial-and-error gameplay, scan the code for a true-ending route:![qrcode1.png](///raw/db7/44/z/5c981.png)

The HTML5 embed worked well on the itch.io page, but keep popping "missing: Cross Origin Isolation, SharedArrayBuffer" error on this page....

Tried again and again and still trying to make it work.

The itch page was unchanged since 2hours before the 48h ended.

Very nice scape game, the song was too loud, but the overall theme was pretty good, specially the graphs and easter eggs :D

The game is really cool. I love the humor and its pretty fun. One small thing is that it takes a little long to move between playthoughs making it a little tedious. besides that, pretty good game, enjoyed it.

@fernando-tonon-de-rossi The song was an unsuccessful rearrange of beatles made in 1 hour. Sorry for that.

@gamer-fates Thanks for playing and commenting!

@cheesepencil Thank you for playing this troll game LOL

@elmoeinstein Sorry for having too many first sight killings. I thought making it an annoying kuso game can be a part of humor. Actually the cutscene can be skipped by pressing Backspace (I'll add it into the description)

YES A PARODY GAME! A PARODY GAME! Such an annoying but fun experience, too bad you didn't have enough time to fix the loading screen bug :p Oh and the graphics are nice!!

This is it, this is Todd Howard's vision.

But yeah, very funny game! Made it to the inside the power station, and read the final message (played through it twice and made a screenshot before the screen got blurry the second time, hehehe). Making the dice throws predictable, plus adding some options that do not make you fail added a great deal of strategy to it. In addition to that, I liked that you also had to fail some stuff to progress, that added some interesting variation to the story. Great job all around!

Loved the loading scene, the graphics. I dont know why the whole restart-over-and-over concept makes me think of Outer Wilds, except with a twist to be able to create that game during the jam. Loved the little story, cool game. Good job :)

Really nice game! I liked the graphics, and the concept of avoiding loading screens was very unique! I enjoyed the puzzle that it created thanks to the dice roll mechanic, even though I failed at pretty much every point possible before reaching the true ending. It was slightly annoying to redo everything from the beginning after every fail and to remember how many dice rolls you used before, but fixing either would've actually hurt the story, so I'm fine with it. Overall, great entry!

Really cool idea and it was very fun to puzzle out what order to do things in to get to the end! I think the roll for the quiz was supposed to give a loading screen but it didn't (not sure if it's a bug or not but I was still able to get to "The End") The art was also really cute! Well done!!

Respect!

I knew I had to play this the second I saw the title, and when I saw what it was about I needed to play it even more! This was hysterical. Very well done, this was glorious.
