The Soundtrack and the audio really immerses you into this apocalyptic, even quiet possible realistic, scenario :D
The game overall is just so well done, good job!
It's confusing at first time how to assign worker (even though it's straightforward, you just click on the building).
The camera is a bit annoying when you try to build things in the middle, it's hard to select certain grid. But it's still a great game!
The narrative design was cool, I particularly enjoyed the last "choice" :-)
Pacing might be a bit off right now bit well that was a lot of things to put together, especially for your first Godot game, so congratz!
I agree with you there could have been some adjustment but it's a jam. I guess it's part of the challenge.
Concerning your population issue, have you notice that you can build a dam above another dam ?
This could help a bit ;)
Once again, thanks for your feedback, you and everybody who took time to message us.
Hope all of you had fun !
I played it on Linux+wine (the download has no Windows label for some reason), so of course the game didn't have any sound. I agree with the mechanics being a bit obscure at first but understanding what to do was quick enough. I also enjoyed the dilemmas which appeared from time to time.
The first impression was the audio, it really had the intense, unescapable feeling of the rising water, very cool and well arranged. The graphics was also notable, low-poly but wasn't bad looking, I really like that. As for the gameplay, I was a bit confused at first but the tutorial did guide me through and helped me understand the core mechanics, I really liked the dilemmas appeared over time and forced you to make choices that affected your progress in many different ways. Though I failed the first time because of running out of workers but I managed to complete it on the second try. It was a really interesting and enjoyable experience I have to say.
After that, I did replay a couple more times and noticed a few things:
- The camera was a bit too far away and restricted in movement, which made it difficult sometimes to click or focus on a specific building on the island, or simply to build things on a right place. I think having more controls over the camera would be a huge improvement for the overall enjoyment, like moving it around with WASD, zooming with the scroll wheel, and panning around freely by holding down a mouse button and dragging.
- Sometimes it's hard to assign workers to buildings because there was no indicator or something that let me know which building the mouse was pointing at. So I had to click a few times to find out the right "spot" that allowed me to assign workers.
- The tooltip for buildings wasn't working correctly, as I was hovering over the build UI and it just said "Test tooltip".
- The balance was a bit off, because I tried assigning all the workers to the ship and a couple of farms on the highland to maintain the food, and I just sat there waited until the game was completed. This made the factory and dam unnecessary to be honest.
But at the end of the day, this is a really nice entry with a creative interpretation on the theme, and the fact that it's your first Godot game makes it even more impressive. Try leaving more helpful feedbacks on other games out there so yours has a higher chance to be discovered by more people, because the result day is near, and I wish you guys good luck on it!
