Morgue Mayhem

  • Fast-paced local multiplayer
  • Play solo or with up to 4 people
  • Fit parts of people in small and too few graves
  • Try to get the best score!

Description

In Morgue Mayhem you get to play around in a rather dark world where you'll embody a grave keeper. In this (recommended multiplayer) game inspired by Overcooked-like mayhem you'll be made responsible for making sure the right bodies are buried in the right coffins. In your graveyard you will have very limited space to bury people, but many mourning families will be visiting hoping to give their loved ones a proper goodbye.

Lucky for you most of those visitor do not have the best memory of their loved ones, they tend to only remember a handful of features about them such as: "Uncle Peter always had these kind blue eyes" or "grandma Sarah used to have blond hair and at least 1 leg". These requests are ones you will want to keep an eye on as it will determine whether the mourning families will be able to leave the funeral satisfied.

Their faulty memory however enables you to make some efficient choices about which parts of people you will be burying in each grave. Maybe you can even send multiple different families to the same grave and send all of them home happy ;)

Goal and Theme of the game

The goal of the game is to score as many points as possible. Points are awarded for supplying families with a funeral matching all of their requests. If you take too long to organize this or you serve them with a funeral with (parts of) people they do not recognize they will leave even less happy than they arrived.

You'll be limited in many ways however, by the limited space of the inventories in the game (your storage of body parts and the various coffins). The limited space of your hands holding only one part at a time. By the set of coffins available. By where players and people are walking. By many factors, trying to capture some of that magical chaos of multiplayer management games under the pressure of time.

About us

We usually are a team of three friends from the Netherlands who love making games and programming. We wanted to make as much of the game on our own as we could. Just how much we did you can see below. We hope you all enjoy our little game, and maybe, just maybe, if you enjoy our game leave a like/comment. We also love to hear feedback! :)

This time around we got a few extra friends to join us which allowed us to learn about working in a larger group and that twice the people does not always mean twice the amount of work done :p Overall it was a great experience and very fun!

General details about our game

  • Built with Godot, we wanted to try something new around. We can honestly say we missed some of the features and ways of working we had developed over the previous entries. However it was great to see what such an open-source product has to offer and overall pretty feature complete.
  • All textures are fully custom made, huge shoutout to @joost!!
  • Some sounds, tracks and other audio effects are taken from other sources. Most of them we made ourselves however! We do not own the rights to the songs we play and we do not intend to use any of this in any commercial form and ask our players to do the same. By playing and downloading our game you agree to these terms :)

Thanks for playing!

If you encounter any bugs feel free to let us know! Check out our Itch.io page as well!

Installation and Tips

When running on macOS or Linux (if available) you may run into some trouble getting started. At least for the linux build you might have to add executable rights to the main executable. To do this on linux run the following command: chmod +x ./MorgueMayhem.x86_64 To do this on MacOS run the following command: chmod +x ./MorgueMayhem\ MacOS.app/Contents/MacOS/MorgueMayhem\ \(TM\) and then open the game with ctrl+click > open

What a polished game!

I love the graphics grim yet not too dark like a lot of games of this graphical genre tend to do. I also enjoyed the sounds, can't get enough of that huff-huff when moving around.
I do have to admit that the start was quite slow for me as it took me quite a bit to understand what's going on and even with the helpful page here I still struggled with the controls at the start, but I guess it was because I don't really have a controller. Once I did get hang of it, it was a interesting experience, different from most genres used in these jams and that makes it stand out!

Marvelous work with it!

Tried it as single player and it was amazing! The mood setting is really popping out. Sometimes I had difficulties to distinguish some body parts. But overall really good submission!

I really like the art. I like the idea of having to put different body parts together. I am not good at this game but would replay it in the future.

I loved the art of this game! It is so pretty! Unfortunately I dont have a controller where I am at right now, so I had to play with keyboard and this was very confusing. Each time a button popped up I had to check again which button I had to press, and often I accidentally incinerated stuff XD It was also a bit hard to see what the requests were sometimes (especially the gray eye color was confusing to me at the beginning).

However, after trying it a few times I got the hang of it and I started to enjoy it. Especially when multiple coffins were introduced I really felt the pressure, and I would have loved to have a couple more people to play with XD

Really nice submission! Great job :D

Yo, very cool game! Feel like a spot of music would've added a lot tho. Other than that pretty nice that you can do a character selection and I love the art style.

Ran into several bugs with the menus. Also found it really hard to tell which parts matched what the customer asked for. Couldn't get a single one right after several tries. But the game looked really nice, and the sound effects were entertaining.

The art is just spot on! And the gameplay feels smooth and polished. I'm really impressed with what you managed to accomplish in such a short time! I will have to come back and play it with friends. It was a bit difficult to play on a keyboard but I got the hang of it.

This was awesome! I love the concept and the art style really pops! The particle effects when moving the character around feel very satisfying too. I love the concept of the game and overall it felt very good to play. I played on a ps5 controller, and everything felt very smooth and snappy (except occasionally the grid components). Extremely well done and fantastic entry!

I got confused at the start, it says to press start to start but there is no start anywhere :D

Great art! Game felt good to play, though picking objects up felt little unintuitive to just close menu. I really like the idea of creating body from body part to customers needs. I think it could have been more fun to have more caskets to fill for customers since for me the storage was really wast full and it felt weird to just run around throwing part away. That way you could just have ready "their loved one" and just switch the head and add a leg or two. Love the grim humor.

Graphics are looking very good and the creepy idea is awesome!
Unfortunately I wasn't able to play much tho. My controller is not an xbox original and things got messed up. I got stuck with the casket, couldn't start the burial without losing 50 points and could not retrieve the leg from it.
On keyboard I wasn't able to start the game. Maybe I'm missing something.
Anyway, congratulations for the work in any case!

Tough to play without a controller, but it was worth the effort! The art is really nice, and the chaotic inventory management concept is a great fit for the theme.

Really enjoyed the graphics of the game and thought it was absolutely adorable. The sound effects were pretty sweet too and I really liked the whoosh of the incinerator. Unfortunately I don't have a controller so it was quite difficult and frustrating to navigate with just a keyboard, but overall a well executed and fun game
