UPGRADE - OUT OF MEMORY by Worido
Web Version available on itch: https://worido.itch.io/upgrage-out-of-memory
UPGRADE - OUT OF MEMORY is a Arena based Wave Shooter where you fight against ever Increasing Waves of Enemies, luckily you can upgrade yourself between Waves by placing differently Shaped Blocks on the Field. Each of these Blocks confers a Bonus as long as it remains on the Field. Between each wave you can place up to 3 Blocks and Destroy up to 1.

This Game has been my first Ludum Dare entry in quite some time as well as my first time working with Godot and is missing quite abit like sound, polish, balancing and quality of life due to over scoping on my end. Nevertheless i hope people can find some enjoyment with it.
NOTE: Linux Build is untested
Controls: W - Move Up
S - Move Down
A - Move Left
D - Move Right
SPACE - Dash (In the Direction you're moving)
LEFT CLICK - Used to shoot towards the Mouse during the Wave and Navigating the Build Menus between Waves
RIGHT CLICK - Used to cancel a Selection while building between Waves

Neat idea, definitely needed a bit more calibration on the balance. Movement is pretty fast for how, uh, limited the space is; the pieces aren't that limited and they probably should be; I wish they affected player and/or enemy movement too somehow. Graphics are very readable & utilitarian if a bit simple. Solid entry.
But definitely agree on the Space not being as limited as it should, i tried limiting the Board size some more towards the end but ran into some bugs that i wasn't able to fix so i opted for the current board size as it at least worked this way. Might try and do a Post-Jam Version that fixes its balancing and expands on the game with things like some/all Blocks affecting Movement.
I think controlling the ship could be a bit smoother too.
Mainly the readability. I found it way too easy for the player to get lost visually when you are trying to pay attention to everything coming after you. I think making the grid slightly opaque while the player is playing could mitigate some of that.
Enemies can also spawn kill the player. A few times during gameplay, an enemy would just pop into existence right on top of the player and kill them instantly. I think a small warning indicator a second or two before they appear would work.
The only other problem I could think of is the lack of sound, but that's not too big of a deal in a game jam. What's important is the gameplay, and the actual game here is really fun. I kinda want to see more of this at some point. Nice work.
those enemies move fast.
blocks doesn't block enemies or player in anyway, but gives player some stat boost.
once you are dead, it's back to the beginning. I kinda wish you would start on the level where you were on. but ok it's like permadeath. let's do this!

for some reason can't place block there? Also figured out you can rotate those blocks.

got to wave 3. I started putting the blocks at the bottom. I kinda wish there was Tetris-like system that the blocks would disappear when placed in a row or something. also your boosts would go away or not? and placing them could be like mini tetris game. but it's a different game then I guess.
Adding sound effects and some particles would add a lot. also music. but I guess you didn't have enough time. You can use music from the internet and keep the audio rating disabled like it is, that's one option.
Simple visual, easy to understand and are clear to see. enemies move quite fast. Shooting is bit hard, as you don't always know will it hit or not. Also bullets are not instant so that needs to take into account. This game needs skill to play which is a good thing.
Maybe placing blocks in different tiles would add different boosts to them also? like extra points to health boos in top left corner for this turn, or something. Now you are just placing them block anywhere.
Tried few more times, can't get past 3rd wave. I'm bad at this. Maybe someone else is better. The difficulty ramps up very fast.
But I did like playing it. Good implementation overall. Could be expanded further definitely.
