Candlelight Exorcist by Teme

[raw]
made by Teme for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

enemy.PNG

Fend off a horde of the possessed with your candle and a prayer.

Light gives you protection. In the candle light, you will take less damage and in turn do more damage to enemies. When you get hit, the candle slowly starts to run out. When it does, you are vulnerable and have harder time fighting back. Go to one of the lights to refill your candle.

First ever game jam, and this sure was a learning experience. Majority of my time went to learning the ins and outs of Godot. Scope got majorly scaled down the last minute. Original idea was to find keys and fight against a boss in the end. Still interested in that concept, so might visit it later.

Attempted to play in to the theme of limited spaces by first limiting your vision, then limiting your abilities, limiting the size of the game window itself, and finally, the area you play in. And with Halloween and all that, wanted to do a horror theme. Dunno why nuns. The Nun 2 must have been on my mind, despite never seeing it, the previous one, or actually any movies in that franchise.

It was a fun mini game, well done !
If I had a small critic to make, I didn't have the feeling that being in the shadow would reduce damage significantly, so I could fight within the shadow without any feeling any problem.
Other than that, I had a great time, the mood is very convincing and the graphics are cute :)

Fun game, I really like the setting. Would be nice to have more difficulty scaling, with boss or other enemy type. I think there is a lot of room for additional content.

@alisher-fazilov Thanks!

@camilleb Thank you. When I tested, I was afraid fighting without the light would be too hard. Turns out I am just bad at my own game :sweat_smile:

@pawel12 Thanks. And yeah, definitely agree. Would have added more enemies and maybe even items/weapons, but ran out of time.

@matthewdrake Thank you!

Loved the graphics with this one and the candle mechanic itself, I actually wanted to make a game that used the candle mechanic and was trying to figure out how it would work, it would have been nice if in later rounds the enemies would get faster since they're pretty slow and easy to maneuver around and dodge, but other than that this was a really nice submission!

Thank you for your game really!
Liked candles in the eyes of cursed nuns and the sound when good nun bless them. Really funny)))
Don`t have any negative feelings) very good game!
