Greeting Card Maker by Adam Konig

[raw]
made by Adam Konig for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

Play here on itch.io!

You play the role of a card designer who does not know how long the message they are writing is going to be and so your goal is to try to fit the entire message onto the card without having to use a hyphen or get to the end of the card!

Your goal is to fill the page as completely as possible with the phrase that you will be fed letter by letter. You'll have to choose your placement, width, and height of your letters wisely so that you don't go off the page requiring you to use a hyphen or a sticky note! You'll then be scored on the amount of page filled as well as how little your letters vary in size (you want them all to be roughly the same size ideally!)

Interesting concept. It's really tough because it doesn't let you move down to a new line, and you have it portrait view so you have very little room for all of get well soon. But it's cute. A little challenging. And the music if fun.

Cute stuff but free drawing is important here I guess

Very proud of myself for managing to get the whole first card complete in one line... reminds me of how my bubble letters looked in my elementary school days lol

Haha, hilarious! Never thought to use sticky notes whenever I ran out of room writing in cards, perfect life hack!

This is awesome. It's so cheerful and friendly and it makes me so, so frustrated.

The combination of the concept and the sound design made this game a fun experience. Very funny! I think being able to free draw letters could really bring this concept to a whole new level, but I think the team did a fantastic job with the theme in the allotted time.

Excellent use of the theme! Very creative game. The use of the voices was funny and I liked the playfulness of the messages. I totally agree with the GoBigRedFan, so frustrating yet so cheerful -in that sweet spot way that makes you want to keep playing.

I like the game idea, and I had fun trying the game. The only complain is that the game in the end felt a bit long. Overall a well made little game. Well done.

@jk5000 thanks for the feedback! What's really insane is that last level with the long message we actually cut down significantly from it's original string because it was way way too long. It still ended up being too long anyway I suppose :)

interesting take on "limited space" :)
i only wish there was some kinda "here is what you will have to write" text as an example so you could plan ahead

Inspiring cards making generator, I have better skills here to space the words than in the reality haha

@dioinecail great suggestion! We did pitch that early on as a possibility, but I think that takes away from the joke we were planning to make with the long messages. For a more "serious" puzzle game I do agree with you that giving the prompt ahead of time allows you to plan your strategy better

A very clever take on the theme. And a very solid entry for a game jam. If it were a real game, I'd be nice to have a new mechanic or feature introduced at each level.
