Doesn't work on mobile devices without a keyboard (not touch enabled)

It DOES work in the embedded window, but it works better if you go the page itself since the game is set at 800x600 resolution.

You're the new kid at school. You don't have any friends. No one knows you.

How are you going to survive?

The gym coach picks you first to climb the rope. You know you're not very strong, and you know you're going to fall off.

You know you don't have a chance... Or do you?

You have self-doubt about your abilities (something reflected in the lyrics of the "Climb the Rope" song, which I realize most people probably aren't listening intently to (because you're playing the game)), but, in the end, you learn that you can do anything with the right attitude. There aren't any monsters in your way -- it's only you.

Dunno about monsters, but the music and humor were definitely there! Nice! Definitely had fun with the Stepmania-type play... As I write this, THEN I hear about "there's no monster; there's only you" ... too good...

This game is adorable! The story is pretty funny, the voices are well done, and the music is awesome. This is actually the first time I've heard voice acting and singing in a Ludum Dare entry. Great job for being unique and making a cool game!

The audio was very nice! However, it almost seemed like the rhythm game didn't differentiate between correctly timed keys and not.

I don't think this relates to the theme... Also, the game mechanic seems to have nothing to do with the story, which seems to abruptly end. Nice music though.

If the graphic for climbing up was more in tune to how well you were doing - it would be better.
Like the link to the theme in the credits - it isn't in the early part (Reminds me of Bambi meets Godzilla short in the 80's/90's) I think it was well done. Great job!

Not sure about theme relation but I love the voices, I couldn't climb the rope though. There were like seven keys in a row to hit, apart from that I loved it.

Realllly funnny.

I found it more fun when I used the arrow keys and the page started to navigate up and down :)

Really enjoyed this. You must have had fun making this and that feeling made it more enjoyable for me.

Don't think this really is the best concept for a game development competition. You may have done better in the Jam if you had someone working on art, someone else working on design, and someone else working on development while you focused on the music. It just seemed that your focus was more on getting good acapella music rather than making a good game.

Good effort on the vocal audio recordings. Seems to be off-theme, but humor is a plus!

I loved the sounds and the music. It was an interesting game. I'd remove the theme options from the judging categories, because (just like the other commenters) I coudn't find out how this is about the current theme. Great work though. :)

Hey everyone, thanks for the feedback! I had a lot of fun (especially making the music).

I just want to address the "doesn't fit the theme" comments - My intention was to make the monster be the inner demons of the kid. I wanted to do four levels, one for each year of high school (ran out of time). Each level would have the main character doubt that he could do the thing he was trying to do, but, in the end, realize that he in fact COULD do it all along!

The lyrics I wrote for the songs convey this, but it is hard to listen to the lyrics while playing a fast (173 BPM!) rhythm game. The ending song says it best: "There ain't any monster in your way... it's only you!"

I don't expect to receive high marks in the "theme" category because it is a little abstract and I feel like I didn't get a chance to add the content to back up my idea, but I definitely did have the theme at heart while making this :)

Good music. Right from the beginning, it set a tone and drew me into the game. I'm impressed you wrote and recorded all that while still programming a game.

The main gameplay section got pretty difficult at times, but it wasn't punishing and didn't prevent you from moving on, so I was fine with it.

I was ready for a larger story, and was surprised when it ended so soon.

I really like this use of the theme. Not only is it an interesting twist on the theme phrase, but it attempts to speak to the player on a level most games don't attempt. I only wish it was more fleshed out, or wasn't hidden in a song. I missed the lyrics of most of the songs on my first playthrough, and replayed to it hear what was being said. On the other hand, maybe you liked the more subtle placement of the message.

HA!!! Giving this a five just for the music.

You should post the songs from this on a Soundcloud or something. They're really good, and if you intended for FOUR LEVELS you probably have unreleased stuff lying around that the world is dying to hear.

I guess I can see what you were going for in terms of the theme, but I don't think it translated well into the game. I did love the music though, and the game was as fun as those music timing game are. There seems to be some issues with the timings on the arrows, but I don't think it's a big deal since the game lets you progress anyways. I think it would be cool if you continued work on it, to include the whole story you mentioned, and hopefully more of that awesome music :)

Great effort on the art. The Audio is fantastic! We're both sharing the same concept of rhythm key-type of game. Not sure how this matches the theme but good job, nevertheless. Since we have the same key-layout I can see how people are finding it hard to find the rhythm while playing. The key should have been a-s-d-f. We're definitely redesigning our project before sending it off to our website.

Nice idea and implementation. I don't see the direct relation to the theme, but it is fun anyway.
Altogether it is a little slow. I would like get also more feedback if I pressed the keys correctly. The difficulty level seems to be too hard for me.
Best thing is the music. This is really very well done!

This is great. The audio is 5/5. The game should make it more clear if you hit the key correctly or not though.

I did not understand how this fit the theme until I read the comments. I first played the game without audio (like I do with most games) but after reading the comments, I had to turn on the audio and give it another shot. I liked the DDR style gameplay and the music certainly did lend a lot to the game.

Fun moody game! Enjoyed the focus on setting the mood. The rhythm game was extremely tough, though, and the key presses were a bit off from the boxes. Good job overall though. Very original!

Not sure how it relates to the theme but it's a very charming entry nonetheless. I like the acappella intro and voice acting though.
