Cosmic Cafe Crisis by simbishy

[raw]
made by simbishy for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

You are an aspiring interstellar cook, feeding the galaxy in limited space, with limited space and limited time.

The only cosmic real estate you could afford was in low-orbit and so you must contend with numerous space junk occasionally colliding with your restaurant. Patrons may order one of two meals: "confusion burger" or "crunchie smoothie"! If a critical workstation of yours is damaged by space junk, take some time to repair it and get it back to working order! If you miss a patron's order, your reputation will drop. It is gameover when your reputation drops to 0.

Alas, your time as an interstellar cook will not be forever, and so it is your goal to just last as long as possible. Good luck!

Nice graphics, like that you have made the code monkey tutorial your own

@phillip-scott Thanks for the kind words! The code monkey tutorial is the only content I've watched around Unity dev (had to pick it up quickly in time to skill-up for this jam!) We planned to adapt it to whatever theme we got :D Had a lot of fun extending what he taught to add some cool novel features <3

Nice game! Reminded me of overcooked, but harder. I've managed to make only one burger before timeout. Also I sometimes confused "F" and "space"

@alexascher Thank you! It's an accomplishment to have made a single confusion burger at all! Really lives up to its name lol

The visuals are super cute, and I love music and sound effects, they really fit the atmosphere of the game ^^ Overall it reminded me of Overcooked and I wasn't very good at Overcooked either xD I was a bit confused here trying to figure out how to prepare a meal. And maybe it's because I played on page and didn't download, but the screen cuts off right over customers' heads so I kinda have no idea what they want? >_< Lastly, I think the idea with stations being destroyed as you are in space and like asteroids or sth hits them is really cool! :)

@kanity  Thank you! Re. the UI scaling: I'm still not very clear on how to correctly setup camera rendering, and especially UI scaling, for different aspect ratios! Still have some learning to do in this area. We hoped that the pause screen showing the burger recipe would help, but it's still a difficult recipe to execute haha

@vanillz I reckon that's why it's called confusion burger xD

I had fun here. It's a casual game, a quick round and the kitchen is gone. Customers couldn't have been angrier. Through trial and error I tried to do something but guess what? I couldn't do anything lol. The falling rocks were a lot of fun, everything was very chaotic and cramped. Very well polished graphically. Just confused to understand what to do. I could start with simple things like juice and get more difficult...

Cool art style. Its a bit hard for me to understand whats going on and what I was supposed to do. I saw the aliens, I gave them a dish but nothing happened. I have never played a game like this so for players like me a tutorial is pretty much mandatory. Also a bit more visual feedback on what is the correct thing to do and what is not the correct thing to do.

Graphics were great! i love the artstyle and the audio was very good, gameplay wise i was a little lost lol, i feel like a tutorial would have made this game realllly good! i do really like the concept!

@m0zrat ty! We realised we made the game waaay harder than anticipated towards the end of the jam haha. Lessons learned for next time :)

@crain ty for your feedback! Definitely, I think we made the difficulty high enough that it warranted a tutorial, but we only kinda realised that towards the end of the jam.

@glennverheij ty for the detailed feedback! Definitely I think balancing gameplay was something we found hard. We only realised how difficult we had made it towards the end of the jam. Hope to improve on this next LD!

@lincolnsalles ty for the detailed feedback! Really good point (and consistent with all our other feedback). Either needed tutorial or easier recipes (at least to begin with). I've learnt gameplay/balance was one of the hardest aspects to get right! Thanks again for playing and leaving feedback :)
