Crossy Chasm by ceosol

made by ceosol for LD33 (COMPO)
INSTRUCTIONS: A lot of people have been confused, which is understandable. In a tower defense, it is the waves of creatures that have to reach the other end. Your purpose in this game is to give the waves powerups, choose which wave is next, and take some hits from the towers to provide some cover. Technically, you are not supposed to be there, it should just be the waves. That is why, when you die, the user doesn't receive any money... because the "tower defense game" does not recognize you as being part of one of the waves. That also means, going to the other side does nothing, because only waves of creatures can defeat a player.

I do apologize that it is not clear in the game. My idea was way too big for a LD entry and I ran out of time :D

*I just added an android version in the links below.

*I doubled the powerups for you and doubled the cost for the user to buy upgrades. The game is still hard, but at least it is beatable. I left the original so you could verify that it was in fact unbeatable. HINT: use the orange guys in the beginning. They give the least money per wave.

*NOTE: I realize that the user is way too powerful. The LD rules state that games that are broken, making them unwinnable, can be fixed. Tomorrow I plan to increase the cost of the user's purchases so he cannot progress as quickly. That is the only thing I plan to change for now. Post comp will include more levels/areas and varying powerups.

The evil "user" just loaded up your tower defense game again. You have developed a secret weapon! You can cheat and power up your troops. Enter into the planning stage to change your waves and enact your cheat powerups. It will be tough, but when you are ready, protect your troops and take out the evil user.

I walked off the left of the screen and dropped right into limbo :).

Cool game though, took me a while to figure out what I was doing, a small introduction text might be useful.

Great animations!

Played the Web (fixed) version. No instructions and not clear how to play.

I like the idea of a reverse TD, but for the life of me could not figure out the objective. Made it to the left side and nothing happened. Didn't know where to go from there, didn't know if I was clicking buttons in the planning menu and, if so, what they were doing.

Good variety, and decent graphics. However, I think it would be easier if movement on PC was with the keyboard.

I thank all of you for the feedback. As all of you are aware of, you cannot always tackle everything that you have planned in LD. I completely realized the need for more details in the selection menu. But in the "fixed" version, I was only allowed to make the game winnable. I was not allowed to add in the pieces that I knew were bad :)

Interesting! But I made it to the other side and didn't win, wasn't able to work out what the actual win condition was since that was my initial assumption!

Nice art, the reflection of the 'player' in the power-up screen was a nice addition.

This was a good concept for a game, I hope that you explore it in the future. Also, I really liked the controls and how the character faced towards the mouse. Very nice. :)

Clever idea! I read the instructions before I started, which made it a whole lot easier. The art might use a little more contrast and range of color, but the animations were great. 4/5 overall.

Yeah, there were things I wanted to add to the powerup screen like not letting you click again on the left until the current powerup is finished and starring or highlighting the current wave selection. I just ran out of time. :)

Watching the monster walk is honestly hilarious. I like the reverse tower defense idea though. This is a great entry.
