A Fox's Journey is a game made by me.
In this game you play a fox who is hunting a few chickens
and after you go through a portal you encounter new enemies!
The main feature is the ability to get the skills the enemies have! (After the 3rd Level)
Note:
Game resolution may affect rendering in a bad way
Jitter effects can be removed by activating VSync
Have fun! :D

Update (25.08)
Resized some files and tryed to add new natives so it might work on Linux and Mac but I'm not sure
found out: I compiled to Java 8. redid it to 7 now. I'm sorry O:
A Bit later now: Tested Linux vesion and got it to work! :D
Update (26.08)
Fixed a bug which wasn't allowing it to start on some systems (Fixed Version) It's not necessary to download but if you want to be on the save side or it isn't working for you , you should download it
If you encounter visual glitches try the Fixed Mirror, if you already tried that one try the old jar file. These should work for everyone
Controls:
A,W,S,D to move
SPACE use kill
ESC open menu (and inventory to use health potions)
Right Mouse to pause the game
Left Mouse to skip through text
1,2,3 to change speed of the game

Was a hard battle system for me
It was interesting ;) Good job!
The characters look really cure and the art is nicely done, soundtrack is also really nice and completes the games in a good way. :)
It would be better to use the keyboard to skip the text, since controls are keyboard based.
Projectiles/powers take a bit to shoot, the slime power felt like it was the weakest for me until now. :P
But overall, nice and charming game! Congrats! :D
A little shame that most attacks were ranged projectiles. Slimes had a more interesting attack pattern, and it could have been interesting to see more of those.
Overall, think it's good entry, but has a lot of space for improvements.
Also it could be an entirely keyboard-based game, the switch within the mouse is a bit disturbing.
Attacks are a bit horrible and slow to cast and target... x)
Monsters always moving randomly and quick after shooting, the time you dodge the attack, and that you try to shoot him, he is elsewhere and ready to attack you again. x)
I ended up with a strange freeze which appears in the first humans level.
I tried again, until The Boss... I unfortunately left the game before I beat it...
Hearts that I found on the map did not recover my life... I have suffered too much... maybe I'll try later... xD
Thanks for this ...experience! Still amazing, you really made a lot!
My main issue with the boss, was that I was unable to land hits on it on purpose. I have no idea where its collision box was, or how the hits were counted. Sometimes I would inflict damage, but for the most of it my hits were completely ineffective.
Hearts also did nothing to increase my health (although I'm just assuming here that that's what they were supposed to do)
It was also a tad annoying to click to skip messages, especially since they advanced line by line (instead of by "page"). This game could have been completely controlled by keyboard, as another person already said in the comments.
Having said that, I really liked the graphics and the music, and although I wasn't fan of the "attack delay" at first, it really made the encounters more strategic and challenging, making me think before shooting, instead of going trigger happy. I ended up loving that mechanic (although the delay could be a bit shorter...).
I also liked the idea of copying enemy attacks, but I'm not really sure how that worked.
Gameplay issues aside, this game has an incredible amount of features and content for a Compo entry (enemies with different behavior, dialogue, game hints, music, graphics, game settings, etc). Particularly amazing given this is your first LD.
Although I was unable to beat it, I think this is a solid entry that I'd love to see polished into a full game.
Good job!
And thanks everyone for writing so many (and long) comments! I learned a lot already! Like the fact that I shouldn't make health potions look like hearts and the annoyance to use the mouse to skip. This combat thingy is something I came up within the last few hours so it isn't as balanced as I wanted it to be.
And I think I gave too little explanations how to do things (like getting skills,or the fact that you need to kill the golden chickens to beat the end boss). I really had lots of fun doing this, playing other games and reading comments from people who actually played my game (never really had that before). So like I said many times: Thanks to everyone! :D
The mechanic of getting the enemies abilities was unique, although I wasn't entirely sure how I was getting the abilities.
One thing that held it back though was how your attack stopped you from moving and took a while to execute, really messed with the gamefeel. If you were to change just that to be an instant attack that didn't mess with your movement then the game would be about 200% better, even if it was a lot easier.
Overall though, good first LD!
