Island Mushroom Rescue - A Mycologist Adventure

Did you know that saltwater and beaches aren't the ideal environment for sentient mushrooms? It's best to help them off the island before the water level rises too far.

Gameplay

Place mushroom houses that gather resources while managing the need for housing and food for the spores. Gather enough resources to escape the island as the water level rises.

An entertaining little game. Was fun figuring out how the resources interact with the different mushrooms.
Not much depth as is, but there is potential for more.

I wish there was a way to delete mushrooms near the end since you usually get stuck waiting for water to delete them for you so you can get the raft.

Interesting economics game.
I liked the speed factor so you had to move quickly, but didnt find any consequences for just putting heaps of shrooms down.
Good submission, nice job!

Ha ha .. I tried putting the shrooms next to eachother and then part of the island disappeared. Second time around I had the raft but I thought I would be able to put the shrooms on the raft and the game restarted.
Overall relaxing and smooth experience. Simple music is fitting. Well done giving the timeconstraint.

Music and artwork fit the vibe. A couple small bugs but a smooth experience overall. Great job!

Thanks for playing the game and for your comments!
@powerofsin, I thought about creating a mushroom that deletes other mushrooms, but it didn't make the deadline.
@haydads, @mdotedot, and @tal28, I've never tried this type of game before, but it's challenging to explain everything to the player. It either needs to be finely tuned to be intuitive or require a lot of UI.
@thenerdster, thanks!

I don't typically play resource games, but I found myself enjoying this one. The graphics are great and the tutorial made everything easy to understand. If you want to keep working on this game in the future you could add some sort of grid system so that players know exactly where they can and can't place a mushroom. There were a couple times I knew there was enough space for another shroom but I couldn't place one. I eventually got it after wiggling things around a tiny bit. Obviously its a jam so there isn't time for everything you want to do. Overally great work! I failed the first time but was able to save 11 after giving it another shot.

Nice and small game. Managed to clear on first try.

One thing was the speed of the game. More relaxed speed would help to show what different mushrooms did and start ramping up the speed when player has started to fill the island and limited space would force to think what can be done to survive. More of balancing issue then gameplay issue.

@alec I probably would start with a grid if I started over. Thanks for playing.
@denvil That's a good idea. Having a slower tick timer in the beginning and then going faster.

I like the calm feeling of the game. It´s nice to get to relax a bit from time to time. It was fun to figure out how the economy worked. Great work.

This game looks amazing. I love building sims, and the idea of floating the island is smartly done.

I think I ran into a bug because the water no longer rises and I can no longer build anything. afterwards I didn't completely understand why the mushrooms but the theme is

Thank you for playing the game @tasakasama. When too many Green mushrooms are destroyed in the water you cannot build the raft. Basically the only way to get a game over.

Finished it really quickly, it was fun and simple. Sometimes it was hard to place mushrooms, you don't understand why it's red.

edit: also green mushrooms should have been actual houses, it would have made more sense :)

It's fun! Camera angle was a bit annoying and music loop is way to short but figuring out how to win was a good challenge and I have to admit, I laughed at the final message :)

I managed to beat the game after 3 attempts. :)

The 3D graphics are impressive for a compo entry.
Also, the web version of the game maintained a good frame rate.
The controls are slightly awkward due to the lack of a building grid, but that could be just my preference.

The only complaint I have is a jarring toilet flush sound that happens every time the water comes closer. xD

@quasilyte Thanks for playing the game. It was tricky to create a good ocean sound in the kitchen. Perhaps I should have changed the pitch of the sound a small random amount so it atleast varied a bit between each wave.

@pe7e sorry if I went to harsh on the comparison, but that sound got me. :D
I usually use sfxr/bfxr to create sfx, but it's limited in what it can do.

It only works well for retro-style 16-bit audio feel.
It also mostly limited to beeps and bops that are OK for futuristic games, but ain't good for pretty much anything else.

A really enjoyable game. I think a good adjustment to the game could've been that the mushroom would take up a signficant amount of space that you can't just spam them all over the island. Adding more a space strategy to the game. And then you could add more levels with less and less space as well.(or the space distributed differently with the shrooms tkaing up different amounts of space)

@quasilyte haha no worries, that's why I made the mute button :)

@bisnesspirate Thanks for trying out the game. Yes, different sizes makes a lot of sense. Would make the game more interesting.

Nice little game. I liked the idea, and the simple graphics. It could just use a bit more challenge.
Other than that, solid entry.

This is neat! A short and sweet resource management game. When I started out I had a bit of trouble figuring out what each of the icons on the right meant (even after reading the tutorial). It'd be cool if those also had rollover names or descriptions. Otherwise, it was cute, and I liked how I needed to be strategic about where I placed things to deal with the rising water.
