Rusty barrel is a short horror game in which you pilot a small, cramped and old submarine. You have to move through narrow openings in gorges on the ocean floor.

The game was made in 72 hours for Ludum Dare 54 on the theme "Limited Space". Inspired by the game Iron lung.

Controls:

wasd - move

lmb - interact

e - exit from control mode

oh man!
this is an awesome little game, I can't even count the times I started or wanted to start a project similar to this one, and you nailed it for LD :)

the ambience is very nice, the game starts out nice and easy, but pardon my language here...
GOD FU******NG DAMNIT! The part with the whales made me so uncomfortable, I don't think I've ever experienced this particular feeling of deep "nope"

Sure amnesia is tense and scary, but this one part of your game evoked feelings I didn't know I could feel from a game.

Only thing was that after that point I sort of missed some more uneasing stuff, I personally would have liked to have a one or two more parts of the feeling that something is just wrong :)

very good job with this one, I also loved your graphics, which elevated the experience :)

Nice, very polished for a one person game. Mood reminds me of Soma, which is one of my all time favorites. Could have maybe added vertical movement, made the level more cave like for the theme and dropped the pointless material gathering. Solid submission nonetheless.

What I liked:
- Improved controls over iron lung :)
- Mood
- Very nice fish and jellyfish and whales, are those video files? Look very cool and unusual, how did you achieve that?
- The Goose.

There is limited space both inside the submarine and outside because of narrow caverns, so you covered the theme twice :)

Great game! A little bit too slow and drawn out for my liking, but I assumed that this is an intentional design. The aesthetics are just out of this world

A lot of interesting things here. I really like that you brought some actual life into your game, this is very immersive.
I would say I don't like it a much as your other entries because the controls are a bit clunky. I don't know the original material so I believe you did a good job in improving it, but hardship kind of got me out of the mood a little.
But I'm really nit-picking, awesome work !

Looks great and I agree with Drunk Wizard, the bit with the whales, jellyfish over what looked like just open ocean made me very tense. Great job.

I am always looking up your games on LD!

The atmosphere, the artstyle is so good.. When I arrived in the open sea, I was mind blown and the ending was really creepy.

Well done!

Reminds me of the narrow spacecraft in outer wilds, with some elements of Subnautica. Very impressed that you managed to get all this done in 72h!

Looks really impressive, I have no idea what kind of magic you have used to make 3D feel like that

What the hell, this is like a 100x more polished and fleshed out version of the crappy little game I came up with. It's mindblowing how you managed to create all these meshes and animations and mechanics in the spawn of 72 hours, it looks FANTASTIC. Absolutely the most impressive Ludum entry I've seen in a while, wow! O:

Very cool, I also made a moody / atmospheric game. Loved the visuals, the low fps sprite anims, big whale models, angry big fish at the end all worked well. Good feel on having the character control the ship and have two separate environments. Great game, well done.

So many good things to say about this game! As an audio person my main shoutout is going to be for the great sound in the game, loving the balloon deflating or whatever it was for the fire extinguisher... so good! So many nice sound details from the ambience sounds to the interactive... I did miss some randomisation of the sounds tho and hitting the sub often had the same sound, a slight pitch randomisation I think could've given it more immersion. But liking the vibe so much... like hunt for the red october but in a 1980s Amiga!

The atmosphere created here was incredible! It felt super polished, it is an amazing entry.

My only criticism is that the movement felt floaty, but I understand there is always limited time to polish that, and the game wasn't about the movement. Also, maybe the floaty movement makes it harder to move which is part of the difficulty.

Fantastic entry, really enjoyed the atmosphere in the game. The little duck/swan? seemed out of place but I enjoyed their company. One thing I noticed and seemed perfect was the little light torches guiding the player. Worked perfectly so I knew I was on the correct path (I dont think their was an option to get lost but it was nice none the less) In a game thats pretty dark and bleak it was very nice to have a small guiding light. Even the outside with the fish, the interior and exterior looked so good. I noticed that movement inside the submarine seemed to float a little? I assume its because its the same controls as the sub? I think that works well with the submarine movement to make the deceleration to 0 make more sense in water but it was just something minor I noticed when moving as the character. Keep up the good work.

Incredibly spooky game! I always love to see the horror submissions for Ludum Dare! The sound design in it was super well done, and the overall atmosphere was incredibly good!

For me this game is a masterpiece (given the context that it aS created in 72 hours for the Jam). What can I really say friend! Keep up!

really nice and polished entry, great atmosphere too! happy to see the goose return again (I believe I saw it in your harvester game).

small bug report: the instruction text wasn't visible on my screen, it got stuck on top (3440x1440 resolution):

Great game! Personally, I thought the movement of the character could be a bit snappier - stop walking felt a bit like having a slight delay. But overall, this was great!
