Postal Pandemonium by dprings7

[raw]
made by dprings7 for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Deliver packages to the correct sorting areas to increase score. Send to the wrong place and your score will decrease. Make sure to avoid the robot helpers!

Thanks to KenneyNL for many graphical assets and other contributors from OpenGameArt for the sound!

Only uploaded to itch due to issues with Godot HTML version - sorry! The start button may not be obvious at first glance, but it's in the bottom left! :)

Please note: Sadly this doesn't seem to be working for Mac users. We will try to debug this at some point but not sure when this will be :(

Unfortunately the itch.io link doesn't work for me either. If you're using Godot can you not create some executables to share? (also is that banner on itch.io AI generated?)

Would love to play this! The page becomes unresponsive for me when I go to the itch.io link.

@joe-cowman @ixil-miniussi Hi both - thanks for taking a look - sorry to hear about the unresponsive issues. Will try to look into this first thing tomorrow morning as most of us have gone to bed. Tried running it on my end in browser and seems to be loading - is it just breaking after clicking start in the bottom left?

And yes @ixil-miniussi - the banner is AI generated :)

@dprings7 The page hangs as soon as I load the itch page, before I can click on anything. I'm running Chrome on a Mac in case its browser or OS-specific.

The game was pretty good! I did find myself covering the text of the areas sometimes which did confuse me. would be good to made the text appear above or delete the things that have been delivered in the future.

MY biggest ask is to make the mouse cursor more visible. On my display, the thin circle for the cursor was the hardest part to see and that made me focus on the wrong thing :O Also, would be nice if there were some time constraint to spice things up!

Fun game, I'm guessing it doesn't end? It's pretty repetitive. I suggest an end time and a high score on the menu.

It's a little tough to get the hang of What's Going On once you start the game for the first time, but alright. Sorting game, kinda fun! Hard to see the cursor, though.

I enjoyed it! Interestingly to me, much of my time was spent trying to determine into which category each item fit. Is a calculator a tool, or technology? Almost leads to an existential crisis.

@ixil-miniussi @joe-cowman @the-neon-shark @catusfelony Hey all, we've updated the cursor so it is much more visible and made the menu buttons more apparent as well.

Not sure if it will help with the mac issues or hanging some people are getting but might be worth a shot. Thanks!

@acarc I managed to play it in the end, basically for me the issue was that the start button is outside the general banner area and outside the screen, I had to scroll down the page to find it. Some of the categories were a little awkward to figure out. What's a tool? What's a technology? Made me rely on the list a lot more which could be the intent. Maybe different levels with varying enemy layouts and categories? To break down the monotomy and slowly introduce more and more categories for the player to remember as he progress.

Not sure if that's a bug or intended, but the game had no audio for me. I was also a bit confused in which category is a steering wheel supposed to go.

Catchy tunes and enjoyable. It was a little hard to read the memo of where everything goes while playing, but that may just be my bad eyes lol.

Pretty good gameplay loop! Icons are sometimes a bit hard to decipher, but maybe that's part of the challenge!

Nicely put together game! I am not sure if I just made a mistake, but it seemed that a few items were giving me negative score although they should have been in the correct category, I saw this happen most with animals. Other than that, great submission!

Fun game! Lovely setting! I believe an end to the game would be better though.

Even on the conveyer I found it sometimes difficult to tell what something was and the writing on the helper sheet is too small. Otherwise a well executed game and I liked the music. However I'm slightly confused about whether we should be rating you on graphics and sound as the itch page mentions you used pre-existing assets.

An ending to the game would be great, otherwise it just fizzles out at some point. Pretty fun for a bit tho!

Despite some bugs, the game, although simple, is entertaining.

However, it could benefit from a level system where the movement and placement of targets change, along with a timer of no more than 30 seconds.

Despite these suggestions, I don't want you to think that I disliked the game. On the contrary, I enjoyed it and thought it was an original take on the game jam theme.

The game is pretty catchy and good, but unfortunately I had a bug with too small canvas size, so that it was hard to recognize items :)
